𝔹𝕌𝕃𝕃𝔼𝕋𝕀ℕ:

𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘂 𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗔𝗕𝗔𝗥𝗭𝗢𝗡 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻 (EMBR4A), through its Gender and Development (GAD), successfully conducted a two-day capacity-building and learning event on March 18 – 19, 2026 at Sequoia Hotel, Paranaque City, bringing together personnel and partners for a series of lectures, orientations, and interactive activities aimed at strengthening professional development and organizational effectiveness.

The event opened with warm welcome remarks delivered by OIC, Regional Director Robert Angelo M. Metin.

The morning session featured Atty. Andrea Nikka A. Yaranon, Attorney V, Civil Service Commission (CSC) Region IV, who led the discussion on 2025 Omnibus Rules on appointments and other Human Resource Action. Her session provided participants with valuable insights into professional standards and public sector responsibilities.

The discussion on orientation of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) and ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System (EMS) were delivered by Engr. Stephanie Batungbakal, Air Quality Monitoring Section (AQMS) and Engr. John Michael Parilla, Ambient Monitoring and Technical Services Section (AMTSS) respectively.

On the second day, the morning session focused on Gender and Development (GAD) and Gender Sensitivity, led by Ms. Maria Cecilia Carina D. David, GAD Specialist II, Philippine Commission on Women (PCW). The session aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of gender equality and inclusivity in the workplace. She also discussed the special leave for women.

Gender Mainstreaming for the Environment Sector was explained by Ms. Amelita D. Talo-talo, Haribon Foundation for the Conservation of Natural Resources.

Lastly, Prioritizing mental health in the workplace, was led by Coach Queen Toni Rose Piñero, Transformational Life Coach, Mental Health Hour Manila. Her talk emphasized the importance of maintaining mental wellness, managing stress, and fostering a supportive work environment.

Overall, the two-day event served as a platform for learning, collaboration, and personal growth, reinforcing EMB CALABARZON’s commitment to excellence, inclusivity, and sustainable environmental governance.

The Environmental Management Bureau Calabarzon Region (EMBR4A) conducts the Training for Teachers on National Search for Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Schools (NSSEFS) Program on March 12, 2026, at Fynn Botique Hotel, Bacoor, Cavite.

The event aimed not only to promote the NSSEFS program but to strengthen each participant's ability to effectively integrate environmental education and sustainability concepts in schools.

OIC, Regional Director Robert Angelo M. Metin welcomed participants through a recorded video message. The morning session began with the presentation on the 2025 NSSEFS Guidelines and success stories from previous award-winning schools, led by Ms. Anne Clarisse F. Canceran, Information Officer II. This was followed by a talk on Gender and Environmental Mandates by Ms. Chariel Althea Dalaramino, emphasizing the role of gender perspectives in environmental advocacy.

Mr. John Arwin Keith Asia, Environmental Management Specialist II and Manila Bay Focal person, encouraged participants in water conservation and management for schools through his discussion on RA 9275 or the Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004. Meanwhile, Engr. Mark Kevin Fungo, Senior Environmental Specialist, emphasized the importance of active community participation and compliance with RA 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.

Before the morning session ended, Mr. Michael Fetizanan, Pollution Control Officer (PCO) Managing Head, Golden Arches Development Corporation (McDonald’s), shared their company’s best practices which demonstrated how businesses can contribute to sustainability.

In the afternoon session, circular economy initiatives and PET recycling were presented by Ms. Maria Merelly Victoria of PET Value Philippines.

Lastly, a comprehensive Solid Waste Management Guide for Teachers was facilitated by Mr. Olaf Miguel Bautista, Corporate Sustainability Executive, and Ms. Essie Despuig, MAO Safety, Nestlé Philippines Inc.

This training highlighted innovative approaches to turning waste into value and equipping educators with tools to promote environmental stewardship in schools.

Aligned with the theme “WE for Gender Equality, Inclusive and Resilient Society,” this initiative highlights the important role of women in environmental governance, climate action, and sustainable development.

𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘂 𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗔𝗕𝗔𝗥𝗭𝗢𝗡 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻 (EMBR4A) conducted an orientation on the National Search for Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Schools (NSSEFS) on February 26, 2026 at De La Salle University–Laguna Campus, attended by teachers and school heads from across Laguna.

Enrique B. Valeroso Jr. discussed the NSSEFS guidelines, while Mark Joseph Tinao of the Lasallian Institute For the Environment (LIFE) highlighted data-driven and sustainable environmental initiatives. Chariel Althea Delarmino tackled the role of women in environmental leadership followed by Rafael Angelo Valdez, who spoke about water stewardship and RA 9275. Engr. Zarah Mae A. Lascano discussed the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act and proper solid waste practices. Participants were also presented with best practices from previous winning schools.

The activity aimed to broaden school leaders' knowledge to help them create, strengthen, or adopt environmental programs in their institutions. More than recognition, EMB R4A underscored that the initiative seeks to promote behavioral change — encouraging schools across Laguna to make sustainable and eco-friendly practices a daily habit and second nature.
