| NORSU Pamplona CAFF Welcomes International Students from Germany and Austria

The College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (CAFF) under Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) - Pamplona Extension formally welcomed fifteen international student volunteers from Germany and Austria on February 03, 2026, as part of the Global Initiative for Exchange and Development Incorporated (GIED).

The visit was held in connection with the Midterm Evaluation Seminar for the NORSU CAFF inbound Long-Term Volunteer Program, which aims to support personal growth, community engagement, and cultural exchange among young international volunteers. The German and Austrian students, aged 18 to 20 years old, are staying in NORSU for one week as part of their exposure to the university, while their volunteer program extends to one year across different parts of the Philippines.

During the seminar, NORSU Pamplona Extension provided free access to its facilities, including seminar rooms and outdoor spaces used for group activities and team-building. These activities allowed the volunteers to share experiences in a relaxed, supportive academic environment and interact meaningfully with one another.

The highlight of the program was the intercultural learning session, where resource speaker Mr. Jazzie Mate Ocao discussed the emotional challenges faced by international volunteers. He emphasized that culture shock is not merely an intellectual adjustment but an emotional experience. β€œFeeling culture shock is emotional, not intellectual,” Mr. Ocao shared, reminding the participants that their reactions are valid and part of personal growth.

The seminar also focused on the volunteers’ well-being, with guidance-oriented discussions addressing mental health, emotional resilience, and adaptation while living in a new cultural setting. This support aims to help the volunteers better understand themselves and the communities they serve.

The visit strengthened NORSU’s commitment to international collaboration and cultural understanding. Through programs like this, the university continues to promote global learning, meaningful connections between local students and international volunteers, and mutual respectβ€”advancing its vision of becoming a globally recognized state university and fulfilling its mission of delivering global excellence through instruction, research, and sustainable extension.

NEWSFEAT| Fully Fledged Foresters
β€Ž
Eleven proud graduates of the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, NORSU Pamplona successfully joined the face-to-face oathtaking ceremony for newly registered Foresters held at Harolds Hotel, Cebu City. The event, organized by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the Professional Regulatory Board for Foresters, marked a historic milestone in the professional journey of the new Foresters as they pledged their commitment to the responsibilities and ethical standards of the profession.
β€ŽThe ceremony gathered a total of 177 oathtakers nationwide, accompanied by their families, mentors, and friends. Among them were the 11 forestry board passers, together with Dr. Josie M. Rodriguez, whose achievement brought honor and pride to the college and the university community. Their participation reflected not only personal success but also the institution’s dedication to producing competent professionals in forestry and environmental stewardship.

PRC Regional Office VII Director Narcival Z. Taquiqui delivered an inspiring message, reminding the oathtakers that tree planting is more than an activity, it is an act of giving hope for sustainability, resilience, and a better future. His words resonated deeply with the new Foresters, encouraging them to view their profession as a vital contribution to nation-building and environmental protection.
β€ŽThe oath of profession was administered by Hon. Neria Andin, Chairperson of the Professional Regulatory Board for Foresters. In her address, she emphasized the ethical obligations, competence, and integrity expected of Foresters, underscoring their crucial role in balancing development with conservation and safeguarding the country’s forest resources.

For the Forestry Licensure Examination passers, the ceremony was not only a celebration of their success but also a call to action. As they embark on their professional careers, they carry with them a renewed sense of purpose, responsibility, and hope for a greener and more sustainable future. Their achievement stands as a testament to the college’s commitment to academic excellence and its vital role in shaping future leaders in forestry.
β€ŽThe College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries proudly congratulates its 11 new Foresters, who now join the ranks of licensed professionals ready to serve the nation and the environment.

Felicidades! to our former Ang BINHI Newsletter staffers, Kaye A. Claire Anding (Photographer), Shanky T. Martin (Cartoonist), and Art A. Gerodiaz (Layout artist) for passing the Agriculture Board Exam! Just like planting seeds and patiently waiting for them to grow, your hard work, discipline, and passion finally bore fruit. May you continue to nurture the field of agriculture with the same dedication that brought you to this success.

Your dedication and success are also our success. We are so proud of you.
