City and Provincial Population Officers in the region and CPD VIII staff convened the 1st Quarter Regional Population Management Conference to review 2025 4th Quarter accomplishments, identify challenges, and align priority programs, projects, and activities (PPA) for 2026 in support of regional and national population and development (POPDEV) goals.

The Commission on Population and Development (CPD) Region VIII, led by Regional Director Elnora R. Pulma, convened a coordination meeting with the Local Government Unit of San Jorge, Samar, headed by Hon. Leoncio U. De Guia. The meeting brought together key stakeholders from the Sangguniang Bayan, youth sector, and various municipal offices.

Also present was Provincial Population Officer-Designate Ms. Sharon D. Uy, who provided valuable provincial insights on population and development concerns.

Discussions focused on adolescent pregnancy. Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) showed that Samar recorded 1,327 cases in 2024, while San Jorge consistently reported 30 cases annually from 2022 to 2024. Stakeholders highlighted ongoing interventions but emphasized the need for stronger and more coordinated strategies, reaffirming their commitment to intensify efforts in addressing the issue.

PH President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at the 82nd UNESCAP Session: Leaving No One Behind — Advancing a Society for All Ages 🌍

In his special message delivered at the opening of the 82nd Session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), President Marcos Jr. emphasized:

“In the Philippines, we endeavor to go beyond ensuring that no one is left behind. We set the priority of reaching those furthest behind first.”
This principle is embedded in key national frameworks — the Philippine Development Plan, the Philippine Plan of Action for Senior Citizens, and the Philippine Population and Development Plan of Action — integrating population dynamics into development strategies at both national and local levels.

With nearly 11 million elderly Filipinos and around 30 million youth aged 15–30, the Philippines faces a unique demographic reality. The President highlighted the importance of empowering both the young and the elderly, not out of necessity, but out of dignity, productivity, and choice.
