DepEd Region VIII Supports Balikbayang Manggagawa through the SPIMS Program

Regional Director Salustiano T. Jimenez expressed strong support for Balikbayang Manggagawa during the National Reintegration Network Regional Fair and Kumustahan, anchored on the theme “Pagbabalik, Pagkakaisa, at Paglaya: A Migrant Workers' Month and Kalayaan Day Celebration,” held on June 11, 2026 at the Leyte Normal University (LNU) HRDC Gym in Tacloban City.

Organized by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Region VIII, the event brought together returning overseas Filipino workers, government agencies, and partner organizations to celebrate resilience, unity, and new opportunities for reintegration.

In his message of support, Director Jimenez highlighted the role of education and skills development in empowering migrant workers and their families. He emphasized DepEd Region VIII’s commitment through the SPIMS Program, which supports initiatives that help Balikbayang Manggagawa transition successfully into productive and sustainable livelihoods in their communities.

“The journey home is not the end of a dream, but the beginning of a new chapter. Through programs like SPIMS, we stand with our Balikbayang Manggagawa in building brighter futures, strengthening families, and contributing to the growth of our communities,” Director Jimenez shared.

The gathering also served as a venue for networking, sharing success stories, and connecting participants with reintegration services and support programs from various government agencies.

HAPPENING NOW | The Department of Education Regional Office VIII is currrently conducting a Workshop on the New Government Procurement Act (Republic Act No. 12009) for Regional Office key personnel to deepen their understanding of the landmark procurement reform and ensure its effective implementation across the organization.

The workshop introduced participants to the key features, updated provisions, and guiding principles of RA 12009, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the new procurement framework with greater efficiency, transparency, accountability, and responsiveness.

Regional Director Salustiano T. Jimenez, in his message, underscored the importance of the orientation, emphasizing that a thorough understanding of the new law is essential in ensuring compliance and promoting good governance in the delivery of public services.

“Keeping our personnel informed and updated on significant policy reforms such as the New Government Procurement Act is important. This orientation will help ensure that our procurement processes remain transparent, efficient, and aligned with the government's commitment to integrity and excellence in public service,” Director Jimenez emphasized.

Through this initiative, DepEd Region VIII affirms its commitment to strengthening institutional capacity, fostering a culture of accountability, and ensuring that public resources are utilized effectively to support quality education for every learner.

LOOK | RD Jimenez Visits Padre Burgos Central School on Opening of Classes 2026.

To personally monitor the smooth opening of classes and engage with school stakeholders, DepEd Region VIII Regional Director Salustiano T. Jimenez visited Padre Burgos Central School in the Schools Division of Southern Leyte on the first day of School Year 2026–2027.

During his visit, RD Jimenez inspected classrooms and school facilities, interacted with learners, teachers, and parents, and assessed the school's readiness to deliver quality learning experiences. He also commended the school officials, teaching personnel, local government partners, and community stakeholders for their shared efforts in ensuring an orderly, safe, and learner-friendly opening of classes.

The visit underscores DepEd Region VIII's commitment to the successful implementation of Oplan Balik Eskwela and the Department's mission of providing accessible, inclusive, and quality basic education for every learner.

The visit served as an opportunity to reaffirm the strong collaboration between the Department of Education and the Provincial Government of Southern Leyte in promoting programs and initiatives that support learners, teachers, and schools across the province. Discussions highlighted the importance of sustained partnerships in addressing educational challenges and ensuring that every learner receives quality, accessible, and inclusive education.

Following the courtesy call, RD Jimenez attended the State of the Province Address (SOPA) delivered by Governor Mercado, where the province's accomplishments, development priorities, and future directions were presented. The address underscored the Provincial Government's commitment to responsive governance, sustainable development, and investments in key sectors, including education.

The Department of Education Regional Office VIII expresses its deepest sorrow and heartfelt condolences on the untimely passing of Mr. Anthony Yakit Pardilan, Head Teacher I of Naga Elementary School, Quinapondan District, Schools Division of Eastern Samar.

We join his family, friends, colleagues, learners, and the entire DepEd Eastern Samar community in mourning this tragic loss. Mr. Pardilan dedicated his life to the noble profession of educating and guiding young learners, and his contributions to the school and community will always be remembered.

DepEd Region VIII strongly condemns all forms of violence and any act that threatens the safety, dignity, and well-being of our educators, personnel, learners, and communities. We stand firm in our commitment to uphold a culture of peace, respect, and protection for all members of the education community.

At this difficult time, we extend our thoughts and prayers to his loved ones and all those affected by this unfortunate incident. We ask everyone to respect the privacy of the bereaved family as they grieve and cope with their loss.

The Schools Division Office of Eastern Samar is closely coordinating with the concerned authorities. We trust the ongoing investigation and call for the swift administration of justice in accordance with the law.

As we mourn the loss of a fellow educator, let us honor his memory by continuing his legacy of service, dedication, and commitment to the welfare of learners. TINGNAN: Matiwasay at matagumpay na nagsimula ang pagbubukas ng klase para sa School Year 2026–2027 sa buong Eastern Visayas!

Sa unang araw ng pasukan, masiglang sinalubong ng mga paaralan ang kanilang mga mag-aaral sa pamamagitan ng makulay at masayang programa ng pagtanggap. Naging maayos at mapayapa ang pagbubukas ng klase sa rehiyon sa tulong ng sama-samang pagkilos ng mga g**o, kawani ng paaralan, mga magulang, lokal na pamahalaan, mga pulis, at mga barangay tanod upang matiyak ang kaligtasan at kaayusan ng mga mag-aaral at g**o.

Ayon kay Regional Director Salustiano T. Jimenez, hindi maiiwasan ang mga hamon sa pagbubukas ng klase, subalit handa ang DepEd Region VIII na tugunan ang mga paulit-ulit na suliraning kinakaharap tuwing pasukan.

“Hindi magiging ganap na walang hamon ang pagbubukas ng klase, ngunit nakahanda ang DepEd Region VIII na agarang tumugon at magbigay ng kinakailangang suporta upang matiyak na tuloy-tuloy ang pag-aaral ng ating mga mag-aaral,” ani Director Jimenez.

Bilang bahagi ng Oplan Balik Eskwela 2026, nakahanda rin ang mga Public Assistance Command Center sa Regional Office, Schools Division Offices, at mga paaralan upang tumanggap at tumugon sa mga katanungan, isyu, at mga concerns kaugnay ng enrollment at pagbubukas ng klase.

Patuloy na nananawagan ang DepEd Region VIII sa lahat ng sektor na makiisa sa pagsusulong ng dekalidad, inklusibo, at ligtas na edukasyon para sa bawat batang Waraynon at lahat ng mag-aaral sa rehiyon.

Maligayang pagbabalik-eskwela, Eastern Visayas! Sama-sama nating simulan ang isang makabuluhan at matagumpay na School Year 2026–2027.

Welcome Back to School!

Maligayang pagbabalik sa paaralan sa ating mga minamahal na mag-aaral, g**o, at school personnel ng Rehiyon Otso!

Sa pagsisimula ng panibagong taon ng pag-aaral, dala natin ang panibagong pag-asa, mga bagong oportunidad, at mga pangarap na ating pagsisikapang makamit. Nawa’y maging makabuluhan at masaya ang bawat araw ng pagkatuto para sa ating mga learners habang patuloy nilang tinutuklas ang kanilang kakayahan at hinuhubog ang kanilang kinabukasan.

Sa ating mga g**o, maraming salamat sa inyong walang sawang dedikasyon at pagmamahal sa pagtuturo. Kayo ang ilaw na gumagabay sa ating mga mag-aaral tungo sa kanilang tagumpay.

As we begin this new school year, let us move forward with optimism, resilience, and a shared commitment to quality education. Sama-sama nating gawing ligtas, masaya, at makabuluhan ang bawat karanasan sa paaralan.

LOOK | Today, education stakeholders, government agencies, and media partners convened at the DepEd Regional Office VIII in Palo, Leyte for the Oplan Balik Eskwela Interagency Convergence Meeting and Press Conference in preparation for the opening of School Year 2026–2027.

The activity served as a platform for participating agencies to present their plans, programs, and support mechanisms aimed at ensuring a smooth, safe, and orderly opening of classes. Through interagency collaboration, coordination, and information-sharing, stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to addressing concerns and delivering essential services that will help learners, teachers, and schools begin the school year ready and resilient.

During the meeting, Regional Director Salustiano T. Jimenez emphasized that the success of Oplan Balik Eskwela requires the collective support and participation of all stakeholders. He underscored the need for everyone, from government agencies and local government units to communities, parents, and private partners, to work together not only to ensure a smooth opening of classes but also to sustain support throughout the entire school year.

The meeting highlighted the importance of a whole-of-government and whole-of-community approach in supporting the education sector and ensuring that every learner is provided with a conducive, secure, and quality learning environment.
