๐๐๐๐ | DEPDev VIII Regional Director Meylene C. Rosales delivered a statement on the 2025 Report on the Economic Performance of Eastern Visayas on 23 April 2026 at the Summit Hotel, Tacloban City.
Eastern Visayas recorded a 1.0 percent growth in 2025, a slowdown from the strong 6.1 percent expansion in 2024, as global and domestic challenges weighed on key sectors.
This deceleration was due to several converging factors: a) the โcare and maintenanceโ status of the Philippine Associated Smelting and Refining Corporation (PASAR) in February 2025; b) the load limit imposed on the San Juanico Bridge due to structural deterioration, which disrupted mobility and logistics and prompted the declaration of a state of calamity; and c) several weather and climate-related disturbances, which significantly affected weather sensitive industries such as agriculture, fisheries, and construction.
While challenges persist, Eastern Visayas remains adaptive and forward-looking, with strategic investments in energy, infrastructure, and human capital expected to support recovery and sustain long-term growth.
