7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, Philippine Army Official page of the 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division of the Philippine Army.

The 7th Infantry Division traces its roots to 1987 with the activation of the 3rd Infantry Brigade (Separate) at Camp Aquino, Tarlac City. On August 1, 1988, it was elevated to the 7th Infantry Division, and on November 22, 1988, it transferred its headquarters to Fort Magsaysay, Palayan City, Nueva Ecija—the home of the Kaugnay Division. From safeguarding Central Luzon to supporting operations in Mindanao, Southern Luzon, the Visayas, and Northern Luzon, the Division has consistently answered the nation's call. As the security landscape evolved, the Kaugnay Division embraced modernization, enhanced its operational capabilities, expanded its reach, and remained steadfast in its commitment to protect the Filipino people. Today, the 7th Infantry Division safeguards millions of Filipinos across Regions I, II, and III through its maneuver brigades, infantry battalions, reconnaissance units, reserve force formations, and combat support units strategically deployed throughout Northern and Central Luzon, with forces extending to Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas. Under the leadership of the 33rd Division Commander, Major General Joseph Norwin D. Pasamonte, the principles of **Pamilya at Malasakit** continue to strengthen one united "Pamilyang Kaugnay".

The West Philippine Sea is not only a battleground at sea—it is also a battleground for information, narratives, and public opinion.

Department of National Defense Secretary Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. and Doublethink Lab Associate Manager for the Digital Intelligence Team Janina Santos join us to discuss how Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) can shape the way Filipinos perceive developments in the West Philippine Sea.

They examine how coordinated accounts, repetition, contradictory claims, half-truths, and viral content can influence public emotions and reactions, making it harder to distinguish fact from fiction.

The discussion also looks at whether China is attempting to sow divisions among ASEAN countries, the prospects for a more united regional response, the possible rehabilitation of the BRP Sierra Madre, and concerns that stronger Philippine-U.S. ties could lead to increased Chinese aggression in the West Philippine Sea.

Teodoro and Santos also weigh in on who should take the lead in detecting, verifying, and responding to potential FIMI—from government and security agencies to media organizations and social media platforms.

Tune in for an in-depth look at the information war surrounding the West Philippine Sea and how Filipinos can navigate competing narratives in the digital age.

DFA TO CHINA: STOP THE ILLEGAL OCCUPATION AND ISLAND-BUILDING.
The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has called on China to immediately stop its occupation and island-building activities on Panganiban (Mischief) Reef and Zamora (Subi) Reef in the West Philippine Sea.
The DFA stressed that these are low-tide elevations within the Philippines’ EEZ and continental shelf, where the country exercises sovereign rights under UNCLOS and the final and binding 2016 Arbitral Award.
Defense Secretary Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. warned that China’s assertive actions—including harassment of Philippine vessels and aircraft—are likely to continue.
“We should not expect any change in their behavior; what we should change is the way we react.”
Meanwhile, the PCG is demanding China disclose the data gathered by its research vessel, Haiyang Dizhi Shihao, which spent around 30 days inside the Philippine EEZ, including 28 days near Bajo de Masinloc, without Philippine authorization.
The Philippines will continue to stand firm in defending its sovereignty, sovereign rights, and maritime interests.
