The Philippines is celebrating its 128th Independence Day

On June 12, 1898, General Emilio Aguinaldo declared Philippine independence from Spain in Kawit, Cavite, marking a significant milestone in the nation's struggle for freedom. On that historic day, the Philippine Flag—sewn in Hong Kong by Marcela Agoncillo, Lorenza Agoncillo, and Delfina Herbosa de Natividad—was proudly unfurled before the public and the “Marcha Nacional Filipina” composed of Julian Felipe was played for the first time.

Today, Filipinos commemorate Philippine Independence Day every June 12, honoring the sacrifices of the heroes who fought for the nation's freedom and inspiring future generations to uphold the values of patriotism, unity, and nationhood.

The Municipality of Palapag proudly joins the nation in commemorating this historic occasion, reaffirming its commitment to preserving the legacy of our heroes and fostering love for country among all Palapagnons.

Palapag Joins the Agri-Tourism Trade Fair 2026

On June 8, 2026, the Agri-Tourism Trade Fair 2026 officially opened as part of the vibrant celebration of the Ibabao Festival 2026. In collaboration with the Municipal Agricultural Office of Palapag, local farmers, producers, artists and artisans and culinary workers, the Municipality proudly showcases a diverse array of locally grown and crafted products that highlight the rich agricultural of Palapag.

Visitors can explore and enjoy a variety of fresh agricultural produce, native snacks, locally processed products, tuna delicacies, and the town’s renowned Salukara—a traditional rice cake best enjoyed with a warm cup of tsokolate. The booth also features beautifully crafted driftwood products, paintings and bags that reflect the creativity and resourcefulness of Palapagnons.

Adding cultural depth to the exhibit is the showcase of the traditional Kuratsa Mayor, one of the community’s cherished cultural expressions. The display highlights the local tradition of “Tunod,” a customary practice in which money is showered, dropped, or pinned onto the dancing couple or partner as a gesture of appreciation, celebration, and support. This unique tradition reflects the generosity, hospitality, and festive spirit of the people of Palapag, offering visitors a meaningful glimpse into the town’s rich cultural heritage.

2026 AGRI-TOURISM TRADE FAIR

The Municipality of Palapag's Agri-Tourism Booth draws inspiration from the simple yet rich culinary traditions that have been passed down through generations of Palapagnons. At the heart of the exhibit is SALUKARA, a treasured native rice cake that symbolizes the community's resourcefulness and deep connection to local culture.

The booth highlights Salukara, where ‘Tuba’ (coconut wine) is used as a natural leavening agent instead of commercial yeast—a practice that reflects the ingenuity of Palapag's ancestors and the abundance of coconut resources in the municipality. The rustic elements and traditional presentation pay homage to the early morning gatherings where Salukara is commonly enjoyed as a breakfast staple.

Complementing this iconic delicacy is a cup of rich TSOKOLATE made from locally sourced KAKAO, showcasing another agricultural product of Palapag. Together, Salukara and tsokolate represent the harmonious blend of agriculture, heritage, and community that defines the municipality's identity.

More than a display of food, the booth serves as a celebration of Palapag's cultural heritage and agri-tourism potential, inviting visitors to experience the authentic flavors and stories that make the town truly unique.

Bago pa man maging bahagi ng mga aklat ng kasaysayan, ang 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝘂𝗿𝗼𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘁 ng 𝟭𝟲𝟰𝟵–𝟭𝟲𝟱𝟬 ay nagsilbing matapang na pahayag ng paglaban sa pang-aapi at ng mithiin para sa kalayaan ng mga Bisaya.

Bilang bahagi ng 𝐏𝐀𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐀 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔: 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐛𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞, isang makabuluhang Heritage Talk ang magbibigay-pugay sa diwa ng kabayanihan ng mga Ibabaonon sa pangunguna ni Agustin Sumuroy ng Palapag, Northern Samar.

Samahan natin si Prof. Vicente C. Villan ng UP Diliman Department of History sa kanyang talakayang pinamagatang “𝘒𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘪 𝘚𝘶𝘮𝘶𝘳𝘰𝘺: 𝘉𝘶𝘩𝘢𝘺 𝘯𝘢 𝘗𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘴𝘢 𝘚𝘪𝘨𝘭𝘰 𝘯𝘨 𝘔𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘩𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘐𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘺𝘢” sa Hunyo 4, 2026, alas-9:00 ng umaga sa Ibabao Hall, Provincial Capitol, Brgy. Dalakit, Catarman, Northern Samar.

Isang kinikilalang historyador, mananaliksik, at iskolar ng pamana (heritage studies), si Prof. Villan ay kilala sa kanyang mga pag-aaral hinggil sa kasaysayan, kultura, at pamana ng Kabisayaan. Sa kanyang panayam, muling bibigyang-buhay ang kuwento ni Sumuroy at ang patuloy na kahalagahan ng kanyang pamana sa kasalukuyang panahon ng kultura, sining, at malikhaing industriya.

Inaanyayahan ang mga mag-aaral, g**o, mananaliksik, cultural workers, heritage advocates, at lahat ng nagnanais na higit pang maunawaan at pahalagahan ang mayamang kasaysayan ng Northern Samar.

Sama-sama nating ipagdiwang ang PAMANA 2026 at palakasin ang ating pagkakakilanlan bilang mga Ibabaonon sa pamamagitan ng kasaysayan, kultura, at pamana.
