The Department of Science and Technology Region IX (DOST IX), through the Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory (RSTL), successfully conducted the first day of the Training on Fuel Bucket and Weighing Scale Calibration on June 2, 2026, at Hotel Guillermo, Pagadian City.
The activity gathered the members of the Municipal Treasurer’s Association of the Philippines (MunTAP) Zamboanga del Sur Chapter from various local government units to enhance their knowledge and practical skills in the verification and calibration of weighing instruments.
Participants were introduced to the principles of testing and inspecting spring scales, and other balances. Through lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, the participants gained valuable insights on ensuring measurement accuracy and maintaining the integrity of weighing instruments used in commercial transactions and regulatory activities.
Serving as resource speakers were Mr. Julius T. Fojas, Laboratory Head of the Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory, and assisted by Mr. Anthony A. Javier, Project Technical Assistant IV, who shared their expertise and practical experiences in metrology and calibration services.
This capacity-building initiative underscores DOST IX’s commitment to promoting accurate measurements, consumer protection, and quality infrastructure.
Complementing the technical discussions, Ms. Kristine Mae R. Sarita, Senior Science Research Specialist of DOST–Zamboanga del Sur facilitated a Gender and Development (GAD) orientation, emphasizing the role of inclusivity and gender responsiveness in effective public service delivery.
