The Province of Misamis Occidental Celebrates the annual observance of the International Disability Day! A DAY FOR ALL! ❤️

Today is International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPwD). IDPwD is about the importance of raising awareness to promote action around the rights of people with disabilities and their full inclusion in our community.

Did you know that there are approximately 12% of the total population of the Philippines who are Persons with Disabilities? The sector is the most vulnerable and the most neglected. We call for a change and for the fellow PWDs to be inclusive.

So, what does it mean to be inclusive? And why is it so important?

To be truely inclusive we need to rethink how we educate, employ and engage with people who live with a disability. Inclusion needs to be a first thought, not an afterthought.

We need to think about how all people CAN participate, rather than IF they can participate.

We may not always know what to say and we may sometimes be unsure of how to engage. That’s ok. Just smile, don’t look away. Look beyond the disability, see the person.
