โœจ In celebration of Endangered Species Day, a successful wildlife release operation was conducted at Lake Danao Natural Park on May 15, 2026, marking another milestone in the conservation and protection of threatened wildlife species in Ormoc City.

๐Ÿฆ… A rescued South Philippine Hawk-Eagle or Pinskerโ€™s Hawk-Eagle (Nisaetus pinskeri) named โ€œJunjiโ€ was finally returned to its natural habitat after undergoing rehabilitation at the Terrestrial Wildlife Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Center. Junji was initially rescued on May 3, 2026 in Barangay Curva, Ormoc City, and was formally turned over by Energy Development Corporation (EDC) on May 5, 2026 for proper assessment and care. Physical examination conducted by the City Veterinary Office revealed trauma on the right wing, possibly caused by stress or extreme heat exposure. After 10 days of intensive monitoring, rehabilitation, and recovery, Junji regained enough strength to safely return to the wild.

The release operation was witnessed by Hon. Lalaine A. Marcos, For. Ronelmar Aguilar and Mr. Albert Azarcon of EDC, Mr. Darwin Encarnacion of DENR, representatives from the City Veterinary Office, and Maโ€™am Ingrid G. Macabare, Officer-in-Charge of the City ENRO. ๐Ÿค

The South Philippine Hawk-Eagle is classified as Endangered โš ๏ธ by both the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List and the Philippine Red List of Threatened Fauna. This rare raptor is endemic to the southern Philippines, particularly in Mindanao, Samar, and Leyte, making every rescue and successful release a significant contribution to biodiversity conservation and ecosystem protection.

๐Ÿšจ If you encounter injured, trapped, or distressed wildlife, immediately report it to the City ENRO for rescue and proper handling. You may contact us at 0946-001-4760.

Through collective action and community participation, we can help conserve and safeguard our remaining endangered species for the generations to come. โœจ
