On 06โ08 August 2025, the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), successfully conducted a three-day write shop to develop the Project Document for the Indigenous Women and Girls Leadership and Empowerment in the Ancestral Domains (I-LEAD) initiative in selected Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) in Regions XI and XII.
The write shop was built on the results of the focus group discussions held in June, particularly on socio-economic activities. These will be strengthened through the Projectโs enterprise development, capacity building, and policy support initiatives, along with its operations and financial management plans for effective implementation.
Her Excellency Dr. Catherine McIntosh, New Zealand Ambassador to the Philippines, graced the occasion and engaged participants to ensure the proposed project plan aligns with New Zealandโs visionโdrawing inspiration from the success of the Mฤori in New Zealand, emphasizing women and girlsโ inclusivity, socio-economic development, and effective implementation.
Also attending the event is UNDP's Deputy Resident Representative, Mr. Edwine Carrie, and NCIP Officials led by NCIP Ethnographic Commissioner for Region III and the Rest of Luzon Atty. Rhodex P. Valenciano, together with Bureau and Regional Directors.
Looking ahead, an Inter-Agency Technical Working Group (IATWG) composed of relevant government agencies will be convened to map out areas of collaboration that will complement the Project. This will be followed by a National Validation Workshop in September 2025, where the draft Project Document will be presented to ICC/IP partners for their further inputs and validation.
Stay tuned for more updates on the I-LEAD Projectโtogether, we are shaping a future where Indigenous women and girls lead with strength, vision, and purpose.
