📌 NORZAGARAY 📌

Pre-Spanish records revealed that, once, the town of Norzagaray was a remote wilderness. It was then called "Casay" a mere barrio of the town Angat.

During the Spanish occupation, the people of barrio Casay worked for reforms-politically, socially and economically in order to be separated from Angat. They succeeded in their attempts so that the Spanish Government, Through Governor-General Fernando de Norzagaray y Escudero (1857-1860), issued a proclamation declaring barrio Casay as a distinct town separated from Angat. Political boundaries were established and barrio Casay was called "Norzagaray". The name of the town was derived from the name of the Governor-General who declared the separation of the said barrio from the political unit of Angat.

ACTIVITY 8:

The Bulacan and Cavite regions are facing serious environmental pollution with oyster farming of the local communities and the side effects of climate change. Discharging eutrophic waste water from the urban areas and an increase in air temperature generate a possibility of red tides alongside the coastal areas.

Activity 6: Bulacan Delicacies

Bulakeno food is prepared using the old fashioned way. Cooking mudfish, for example, involves fermenting fish and packed them into banana stalks before burying them in live coals.

Bulacan food is popular with its specialty in a variety of rice cakes for desserts or locally called panghimagas: kutsinta, sapin-sapin-suman, cassava cake, halaya ube and pastillas de leche, the famed delicacy from San Miguel, Bulacan.

Sociocultural factors in San Ildefonso, Bulacan

Social and cultural factors are one of the important factors a designer needs to understand in order to create well-functioning building and/or community. Everyone has a different view of the world but it is also important to note that we also have so much in common. Culture has always been a big part of everyone’s life, it has shaped what kind of person someone is, and what kind of society they are living in. In connection with Theory of Architecture, designers/architects are faced with the problem on how they would build and develop a relation between the architectural environment and its inhabitants.
Bulacan is known as the cultural capital of the Philippines for having one of the richest culture and history in our country. The economy of San Ildefonso [Bulacan] rely on their agricultural products since almost the whole municipality is surrounded by farmlands. Schools far from the city proper have their nurseries, where plants and trees are propagated and grown. Near the city proper you can locate San Ildefonso’s state college-Bulacan Agricultural State College, where students are provided with knowledge and skills that can help them contribute to the provincial and national progress.
Bulacan is also known for their historical churches and San Ildefonso, although only the Guiguinto Church is found here, has a variety of churches, from catholic churches to other religions. Another thing we observed while visiting the municipality of San Ildefonso is how their transportation system looked like. Tricycles are the most common mode of transportation in the area because some barangays have narrow and undeveloped roads which makes it hard for PUVs (Public Utility Vehicles) to go through. Although tricycles are the trend, they still don’t have their proper terminals. Most of these tricycles are parked on the sidewalks where pedestrians should be able to use but now has become a tricycle terminal/s.
These different sociocultural factors define the identity of this community. Architecture has always been a reflection of culture in every society, showing the political, historical, economic and social features of society. Understanding the community’s sociocultural factors will help us determine what kind of development should we develop that is suitable for this type of community in San Ildefonso.
