In 2023, the Office of the City Agriculturist - Dumaguete City, led by the proactive Gender and Development (GAD) Program Coordinator, accomplished a fruitful year marked by the successful implementation of projects and programs. These initiatives significantly enhanced the capacity and well-being of target beneficiaries, specifically women and men farmers, fisherfolks, youth, and Women Deprived of Liberty in Agriculture.
Addressing gender issues, the Office executed activities aligned with its mandate, demonstrating a commitment to decreasing inequality in the agricultural sector. Furthermore, the implementation of gender-related interventions was designed to align with the GAD Mandate, emphasizing a participatory, empowering, equitable, sustainable, violence-free, and human rights-respecting approach.
Looking ahead, the Office is poised to continue its agricultural interventions, contributing to the ongoing development and support of our beloved farmers in the City.
The following are the successfully implemented projects and programs:
1. On August 22, 2023, our initiative for the Skills Training on Vertical Vegetable Gardening was effectively implemented. This program enhanced the knowledge and skills of 55 women and men, providing them with the necessary resources for effective vegetable gardening.
2. On August 22, 2023, Training on Native Chicken Production engaged 26 participants keen on raising native chickens at home. They successfully acquired technical knowledge on proper handling and cultivation of native chickens, essential for fostering sustainable impacts on livelihood projects for the bona fide recipients in Dumaguete City.
Subsequently, on December 27, 2023, there was a dispersal of the native chickens. All recipients enthusiastically received the livelihood interventions, expressing a commitment to taking good care of them.
3. In August 2023, the Skills Training on Ginger Production was successfully implemented in collaboration with Maโam Lorencita L. Viente, PAO Agricultural Technician. The program saw active participation from 45 women and men, who gained knowledge and skills in ginger production and were provided with start kits to support their endeavor.
4. On September 27-28, 2023, we successfully conducted a comprehensive skills training on organic agriculture. Seventy women and men farmers actively participated, gaining valuable knowledge and skills. Additionally, participants were equipped with starter kits to support their endeavors in organic agriculture.
5. On October 18, 2023, the commencement of National Rural Womenโs Day served a significant motivation for women farmers, fisherfolks, rural women, and youths to enhance their productivity and competitiveness. Notable highlights of the event included:
1. Awarding of the 10 Outstanding Women in Agriculture
2. One Dish Meal Cooking Contest
3. Pag-amuma sa mga Kababaihang Mag-uuma
4. Symposium on Womenโs Health and Nutrition
These activities aimed to celebrate and empower women in the agricultural sector while fostering knowledge, skills, and well0being.
6. On October 24-25, 2023, a Skills Training and Demonstration on Fish Processing were successfully conducted, thanks to the enthusiastic leadership of Maโam Emalyn Gepana, OCA Agricultural Technician. The event engaged 39 women and 1 man from the fisherfolks community, expressing interest in exploring a new source of livelihood to supplement their income. At the end of the activity, participants were empowered with skills and provided starter kits to apply what they learned in their homes.
