Marhay na aldaw, Ateneans!

โ€œFreedom is nothing else but a chance to be better.โ€ -Albert Camus

As Filipino citizens, we have to exercise our rights to suffrage. Having these rights, it is our responsibility to vote because voting is an important part of democracy. But to be responsible voters, we should take all means to educate ourselves.

The 2022 National Elections is fast approaching. Although campaigns have not yet begun, Filipinos have already expressed their political views on the internet and in the streets. Some people even went so far as to argue for their political bet, resulting in intense debates on social media. However, this election is about more than just picking pink or red; it is about weighing the individuals who will bring about change in the country. In light of this, we are called to be more vigilant in our pursuit of the truth. We must recognize the importance of our running leaders' transparency from the start. By then, we will be able to discern who actually has the vision and willingness to serve the public. And, as voters, it is our job to educate ourselves about them. We must remember that we vote not because we want someone to rule over us, but because we want genuine service.

Join us with your +1 (any family member) on October 29, 2021, 1โ€“4 pm, for the Talingkas: Voters Education as the SC Comelec together with AVR-Naga, conspire to provide the ADNU SHS Community an opportunity to be enlightened about the issues they need to know, and their roles as the heralds of democracy before fulfilling their right to suffrage. Let us all be educated and use our freedom to achieve it for those deprived of it.

"I've already registered to vote. Is there more to it?"

Your vote has the potential to change the course of history, as the outcome of the 2022 elections will determine how the Philippines recovers from the devastation caused by COVID-19, as well as the status of our country in the years to come.

It is our civic duty to appoint leaders who will let our voices be heard to establish the change we've been fighting for years. With 61 million voters and counting, millions of Filipinos have a chance of having a better life and future if we make sure our vote goes to those who deserve such a position, especially those who have shown compassion to our fellow countrymen.

Be the voice of the unheard, do your part in the upcoming elections!

A lone plea of resistance on a boulevard of silenced souls reverberates through the pillars of the fortress. A vote, though one in a million, spurs change.

"The ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all."- John F. Kennedy

No vote is selfish nor it is simply to exercise the right to suffrage. Imbibed within are courage and empathy with the victims of persecution and destitution.

As the Voters registration approaches its end, take the chance and use your power. As citizens fiercelessly take a step, undeserving leaders falter. Make leaders lead.

Ang iyong boto ay kalakip ng pagtindig at paghakbang patungo sa pag-unlad at pagkakapantay-pantay.

Your vote is everything that a country may need to change the world. Everything you want to change about a country may change because of you. You have a voice and you have to let it be heard through voting.

Let us not let go of the opportunity to make a change. A single vote can make a difference. Your vote matters.

"There's no such thing as a vote that doesn't matter. It all matters."
-Barrack Obama

The little knowledge we have on how powerful our voice is in the political process is one of the reasons why these injustices continue to perpetuate. To be exact, we are talking about the power each Filipino holds during elections. Each individual has the right to vote for a candidate they deem deserving. But, this is not just about having an opinion and social or political engagement; this is about mobilizing change.

As we shade our ballots, we are already determining the path our country will take for the next 10-12 years. Will we be instruments that support oppressive systems? Or will we be the pioneers of change in the country? Remember, as well, that those unrepresented and silenced will have an equal voice on this matter. Through voting, we can join their movement for change and give them hope. Let us help them achieve a society where they are catered to and involved.

So, as a community, let's spark change by changing the narrative of suffrage. Register now, and don't let your vote and voice be taken away from you.
