On December 30, 2025, at about 7:35 PM in Naga City, operatives of the Camarines Sur Provincial Cyber Response Team conducted an entrapment operation that led to the arrest of a 19-year-old man, alias "Kaloy," for the illegal online sale of a financial account through an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card.

"Kaloy" is facing charges for violation of Section 5(d) of RA No. 12010 [Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act (AFASA)] in relation to Section 6 of RA No. 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012).

PBGEN Wilson C. Asueta, Acting Director of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group, praised the operatives for the successful operation. โ€œFinancial accounts should never be sold or shared, as they are often exploited for illegal online transactions. We strongly advise the public to protect their ATM and bank accounts and to report any suspicious online offers to the PNP ACG,โ€ he added.

PNP ADVISORY
Re: Fraudulent Use of PLTGEN Bernard M. Banacโ€™s Name for Online Solicitation

The Philippine National Police (PNP) warns the public about an online scam involving fraudulent impersonation of Police Lieutenant General Bernard M. Banac, Acting Deputy Chief PNP for Administration. The scam is being carried out through the messaging app Viber, where an individual is soliciting money from unsuspecting persons.

The impersonator is using the name โ€œBernard Banacโ€ and falsely presenting a PNPA Class of 1992 seal.

The Viber account and mobile number involved are not associated with PLTGEN Banac. He does not request, authorize, or tolerate any form of money solicitation. Any message suggesting otherwise is fraudulent and intended to mislead the public.

The PNP advises everyone to ignore and report unsolicited messages requesting money using the names or identities of police officials. Preserve screenshots and digital evidence when reporting such incidents.

Cyber and intelligence units are conducting investigations to identify the perpetrators, trace digital footprints, and file charges under existing laws.

Public vigilance and cooperation are crucial to prevent further victimization and to hold those responsible accountable.

The PNP remains committed to protecting the public from online scams and safeguarding the integrity of its organization, in line with Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinasโ€”Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat, at Nararamdaman.

Nakapagpatupad din ang PNP ACG ng 97 cyber warrants, kabilang ang 89 Warrants to Disclose Computer Data, isang Warrant to Examine Computer Data, at pitong Warrants to Search, Seize, and Examine Computer Data.

Bukod dito, naisagawa ang 2,365 cyber patrolling activities, 68 digital forensic examinations, pagtulong sa 22 convicted individuals, pagligtas sa 18 biktima, at pagkuha sa kustodiya ng 15 na Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL).

Ipinahayag ni Acting Chief PNP, Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., ang kanyang pasasalamat sa patuloy na pagbabantay ng ACG personnel:

โ€œPatuloy nating pinaiigting ang ating laban kontra cybercrimeโ€”not only because it is our mandate, but because millions of Filipinos depend on us to protect them in the digital space. These accomplishments show clear progress, but they also remind us that the job is far from over. We are pushing for smarter, faster, and more coordinated cyber enforcement so every Filipino feels safe online.โ€

These are lives protected, scams prevented, and criminals stopped. This is what the President expects, and this is what the public rightfully deserves.โ€

Think twice before clicking, sharing personal information, or dealing with suspicious offers.โ€

As long as they continue to prey on the public, the PNPโ€”especially the ACGโ€”will be relentless in pursuing them.โ€
