‎Our office received a report last January 23, 2026 regarding an aggressive dog that had bitten a victim at Cathedral Street, Bagumbayan Sur. The City Veterinary Office collected a sample for laboratory examination and confirmed that the animal tested positive for rabies.
‎In response to this confirmed case, the City Veterinary Office conducted the necessary rabies control activities today, January 29, 2026, within the affected area. These activities included animal impounding operations for stray dogs in the vicinity and the implementation of a 100-meter ring vaccination against rabies.
‎We would like to thank Barangay Captain Josephine D. Camba for her support in safeguarding public health and in helping prevent further rabies incidents in the community.

📅🐾 APPOINTMENT SCHEDULING & UNDERSTANDING ELECTIVE SURGERY (CASTRATION) 🐾📅

✂️ WHAT IS ELECTIVE SURGERY?
An elective surgery is a planned procedure that is not an emergency and is scheduled in advance. It is performed on apparently healthy patients to improve long-term health and quality of life.

🐶🐱 WHY IS CASTRATION CONSIDERED AN ELECTIVE SURGERY?
Castration (neutering) is classified as an elective surgery because:

✅ The patient must be clinically healthy before the procedure
✅ The surgery is scheduled through an appointment, not done on an emergency basis
✅ Pre-operative preparation is required, including fasting
✅ The procedure is done by choice as part of responsible pet ownership, not because it is immediately life-saving

🕒 WHY IS FASTING REQUIRED BEFORE SURGERY?
Fasting is an important safety requirement before castration because:
• It helps prevent vomiting during anesthesia
• It reduces the risk of aspiration pneumonia, a serious condition where food or fluids enter the lungs
• It ensures safer anesthesia and smoother recovery for the patient

💉 WHY IS RABIES VACCINATION REQUIRED PRIOR TO SURGERY?
Rabies vaccination is required before surgery to:

• Promote responsible pet ownership in compliance with national and local laws
• Protect veterinarians, veterinary staff, and City Veterinary Office (CVO) personnel from possible rabies exposure
• Reduce the risk of rabies transmission through bites, scratches, or contact with saliva
• Ensure that pets undergoing surgery are rabies-free and safe to handle
• Support the government’s rabies prevention and eradication programs
• Maintain a safe and secure surgical environment

🌱 IMPORTANT REMINDER
Although castration is an elective surgery, it provides significant benefits:
✔ Helps control pet overpopulation
✔ Reduces stray animal populations
✔ Supports rabies prevention efforts
✔ Improves animal welfare and public safety

📍 Elective does not mean unnecessary.
📍 Castration is a responsible, preventive, and life-improving procedure.
