The Provincial Science and Technology Center for Davao de Oro (PSTC-DdO) is one of the five PSTCs of the Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI). To strengthen Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) in the province, a five-day intensive training on the Rapid Earthquake Damage Assessment System (REDAS) was conducted through a multi-stakeholder collaboration among the Department of Science and Technology โ€“ Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOSTโ€“PHIVOLCS), the Provincial Government of Davao de Oro, Alinea International - Canada through the GOV-CDR Program, and DOST Davao de Oro. The activity aimed to enhance the provinceโ€™s capacity by equipping participants with technical knowledge and practical competencies in utilizing REDAS for earthquake and other hazard assessment for evidence-based disaster preparedness planning.

Participants included representatives from the eleven (11) municipalities of Davao de Oro, National Government Agencies, Academe, and the technical personnel from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).

The conduct of the training underscores the commitment of partner institutions to strengthening local government capabilities and promoting the application of science- and technology-based tools to enhance disaster resilience and support risk-informed decision-making at the local level.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Davao de Oro, in partnership with Davao de Oro State College, conducted the Proposal Writeshop 2026 at the DDOSCโ€“Compostela Main Campus. The two-day activity gathered researchers and representatives from academic institutions, Local Government Units, National Government Agencies, and private sector partners across the Davao Region.

The writeshop provided an orientation on the 2026 DOST Call for Proposals, highlighting the priority research areas of the DOST Councils. Participants also presented their research ideas and received technical guidance and consultations to help improve and refine their proposals for possible submission and funding.

Through this activity, DOST Davao de Oro strengthened collaboration among research stakeholders and supported the development of quality research proposals aligned with the Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Plan for Davao de Oro, contributing to innovation and sustainable development in the province.

Following the recently conducted Davao Region Online Synthesis System (DROSS) Orientation, DOST Davao Region, in partnership with the HELP Davao Network, the Provincial Government of Davao de Oro, and the International Center for Water Hazard and Risk Management (ICHARM) โ€“ Japan, conducted a Flood Inundation Workshop utilizing Satellite Imagery.

The ICHARM Japan experts led the workshop and guided participants through the analysis of flood inundation patterns using satellite-derived data. Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) personnel and local stakeholders applied geospatial tools to assess flood-prone areas and support risk-informed planning and decision-making.

The activity strengthened technical capacities and reinforced the use of scientific data in enhancing early warning systems and disaster preparedness efforts across Davao de Oro.

In partnership with the HELP Davao Network, the Provincial Government of Davao de Oro, and the International Center for Water Hazard and Risk Management (ICHARM) โ€“ Japan, DOST Davao Region conducted the Davao Region Online Synthesis System (DROSS) Orientation and Engagement with Local Stakeholders to enhance disaster preparedness Davao de Oro.

The activity comprised a productive meeting with Provincial Administrator Ivan Kleb N. Ulgasan, a DROSS orientation and consultation with provincial and municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) personnel, an ocular inspection of existing Early Warning Systems, and a consultation with local leaders in Monkayo, led by Mayor Manuel N. Zamora Jr., regarding flood hazards within the municipality.

By integrating international expertise with local knowledge, this initiative promotes enhanced collaboration among national agencies, local government units, and community stakeholders, thereby contributing to the development of a safer and more resilient Davao de Oro.

DOST Davao de Oro, in partnership with the Municipal Local Government Unit of Nabunturan, successfully conducted a series of workshops for the development of the Smart and Sustainable Roadmap of the municipality. The activity was facilitated by UPGRADE InnoLab as part of ongoing DOST initiatives to strengthen innovation-driven and future-ready local governance.

This activity is one of the key interventions of DOST Davao de Oro under its Smart and Sustainable Community Project, aimed at helping the municipality strategically plan for digital transformation, resilient systems, and inclusive development.

The workshops gathered heads and representatives of key municipal offices and National Government Agencies, fostering collaborative planning and evidence-based decision-making. The Collegio de Nabunturan also participated as the academe partner, providing valuable insights to support the development of a science, technology, and innovation-driven roadmap for the municipality.

Implementation of Four-Day Workweek

In line with Office of the President Memorandum Circular No. 114, s. 2026 and DOST Administrative Order No. 005, s. 2026, the Department of Science and Technology Davao Region will implement a four-day compressed workweek for the Regional Office and Provincial Science and Technology Offices (PSTOs).

Our offices will now be open Monday to Thursday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and CLOSED on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
