BuCor Joins Nationwide Observance of National Flag Days

In observance of National Flag Days from 28 May to 12 June 2026, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) joins the nationwide commemoration by installing Philippine flags and flaglets across its Operating Prisons and Penal Farms (OPPFs) under the theme, “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.”

The observance commemorates the first unfurling of the Philippine Flag following the historic Battle of Alapan in 1898 and culminates in the celebration of the 128th Philippine Independence Day on 12 June 2026.

As part of the nationwide commemoration, the Bureau actively participated in the installation of Philippine flags and flaglets in administrative buildings, security posts, offices, and common areas to demonstrate patriotism, national pride, and respect for the country’s national symbol.

The activity also serves as a reminder of the sacrifices and heroism of Filipino forefathers who fought for the nation’s freedom and independence, while encouraging present and future generations to uphold the values of unity, discipline, accountability, and dedicated service to the country.

Aligned with the directives of the national government, the BuCor remains steadfast in supporting programs and activities that strengthen nationalism and preserve the historical significance of the Philippine flag as a symbol of sovereignty, dignity, and hope for a better future.

Through this meaningful tribute, BuCor joins the Filipino people in honoring the nation’s rich history and reaffirming its commitment to public service and nation-building.

DPPF Conducts Management Review for FY 2026

On 20 May 2026, a comprehensive Management Review for Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 was conducted under the leadership of C/SUPT ABEL DR CIRUELA, MSCA, Acting Superintendent of the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF).

The activity was attended by key officials, administrative personnel, civilian personnel, and members of the Local International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Core Team and Secretariat. The review was presided over by CTSO2 Maria Lourdes J Pantaleon, Team Leader for Internal Quality Audit (IQA).

During the activity, key agenda items related to the Quality Management System (QMS) of the institution were presented and discussed. These included the objectives of the Management Review, results of the Local ISO Audit, updates on previous action points, and an assessment of internal and external factors affecting the QMS. Also covered were customer satisfaction results, stakeholder feedback, process performance, service conformity, and internal audit findings. Opportunities for improvement and resource adequacy were likewise identified to strengthen operational effectiveness and support continuous improvement.

In his message, C/SUPT CIRUELA emphasized the importance of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement in achieving organizational goals and sustaining quality public service. He encouraged all personnel to remain committed to the effective implementation of the QMS and to consistently uphold professionalism, efficiency, and excellence in their duties.

BuCor Enhances Personnel Communication Skills Through Specialized Training

On 28 May 2026, the Directorate for Personnel Education and Training Services (DPETS), led by C/SINSP MA CRISTALEE A FERNANDEZ, Deputy Director of DPETS, in collaboration with IHELP Coaching and Business Solutions, Incorporated, successfully conducted the training entitled, “Foundations of Effective Communication and Public Speaking,” at the New Conference Room, Administration Building, National Headquarters (NHQ), Muntinlupa City.

The activity aimed to strengthen the written, verbal, and public communication competencies of 86 personnel of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), in support of professional development and effective public service delivery.

The resource speaker, Mr. Jeff P. Fernandez, Coach of IHELP Coaching and Business Solutions, Incorporated, shared valuable insights and practical techniques on effective communication and public speaking.

The program was conducted in two (2) separate sessions. The morning session was attended by 39 Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) and 4 Non-Uniformed Personnel (NUP), focusing on “Foundations of Effective Communication,” which emphasized the importance of clear, professional, and purposeful communication in the workplace.

Meanwhile, the afternoon session was attended by 29 Commissioned Officers (COs), 9 NCOs, and 5 NUP, focusing on “Public Speaking for Government Professionals.” It highlighted strategies and techniques in delivering effective speeches, building confidence, and enhancing leadership communication skills.

Through initiatives such as this, BuCor continues to uphold its commitment to enhancing the capabilities and professionalism of its personnel through continuous education and development programs in the correctional service.

NBP-MedSeCamp Camp Commander Leads Personnel Information and Education

On 26 May 2026, C/CINSP MAURICIO M GRATIS JR., Camp Commander of the New Bilibid Prison–Medium Security Camp (NBP-MedSeCamp), spearheaded the Personnel Information and Education (PIE) activity for all NBP-MedSeCamp personnel, together with C/CINSP ALBERTO D ANDRADA, Deputy Camp Commander for Reformation; CCINSP GODOFREDO L DONIO, Commander of the Guards; and CSO3 Glenn M Mendoza, Deputy Camp Commander for Administration.

The activity commenced with a warm welcome message from the Camp Commander to all Corrections Officers in attendance. The activity aimed to strengthen the knowledge, values, discipline, and overall performance of Corrections Officers in line with their mandated duties and responsibilities within the institution.

During the session, C/CINSP GRATIS emphasized the importance of attendance monitoring; timely compliance with duties and responsibilities; proper preparation and submission of incident reports; and the conduct of non-lethal demonstrations. He likewise highlighted the significance of maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in offices and all areas within the camp, preventing the unauthorized entry of personnel into NBP-MedSeCamp.

The PIE activity served as an avenue to reinforce professionalism, accountability, and operational readiness among personnel, further supporting the continuous improvement of institutional management and security operations within NBP-MedSeCamp.

BuCor Summer Sports League 2026 Features 5K Fun Run at CNTI

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) held the BuCor Summer Sports League (BSSL) 2026 5-Kilometer Fun Run on 29 May 2026 at the Corrections National Training Institute (CNTI) Parade Grounds, New Bilibid Prison Reservation, Muntinlupa City.

The Fun Run formed part of the BSSL 2026 activities, following its official opening on 20 May 2026 at the same venue. The event was led by CO3 Jan Vincent Lopez and CTO2 Janet G Devaras, Fun Run Coordinators, and participated in by personnel from various BuCor offices and operating units.

The race started at the CNTI Parade Grounds, circled around the Sunken Garden, and passed through the façade of the Administration Building.

For the male category, CO1 Mark Angelo Ares from the National Headquarters (NHQ) emerged as the top finisher with a time of 18 minutes and 15 seconds. For the female category, CO1 Angela Gonsales from the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) recorded the fastest time at 23 minutes and 52 seconds.

The BSSL Fun Run underscored the Bureau’s commitment to promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and institutional solidarity among Corrections Officers through meaningful sports and wellness activities.

CIW–Sta. Lucia Highlights Faith and Reformation Through Floral Competition

Iwahig, Puerto Princesa City – On 23 May 2026, the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) conducted the “Petals of Devotion: Flores De Mayo Floral Contest” at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW)–Sta Lucia. The activity gathered 34 female Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) in a celebration of faith, creativity, and cultural tradition.

Inspired by the Filipino Catholic tradition of Flores De Mayo, the contest paid tribute to the Blessed Virgin Mary through the offering of flowers, prayers, and acts of devotion during the month of May. Participants showcased beautifully arranged floral displays that reflected both their artistic talents and spiritual dedication.

Beyond the floral competition, the activity promoted emotional healing, spiritual growth, stress reduction, teamwork, and camaraderie among the participants. Through the activity, the PDL participants were given an opportunity to express themselves positively while strengthening their sense of hope and community.

OFFICIAL PUBLIC ADVISORY

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) warns the public against reported fraudulent activities involving the alleged solicitation of money in connection with the release of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW), Mandaluyong City.

Reports received by CIW indicate that certain individuals are using mobile numbers and falsely representing themselves as BuCor personnel or authorized representatives to solicit money, allegedly in exchange for the release of PDL.

The following mobile numbers have been reported:

The public is reminded that the release of PDL is governed strictly by law, existing rules, and official procedures. BuCor does not authorize any person to demand, solicit, or receive money in exchange for, or in relation to, the release of any PDL.

The public is advised to exercise caution, refrain from transacting with suspicious individuals, and immediately report similar incidents to the appropriate authorities or to the BuCor.

IPPF Supports Brigada Eskwela at Inagawan National High School

Iwahig, Puerto Princesa City – Personnel from Inagawan Sub-Colony (ISC) of Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) participated in the Brigada Eskwela program held at Inagawan National High School on 26 May 2026. The activity was conducted as part of the continuing community service initiative of the institution, in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) in preparation for the upcoming academic year.

The participation of ISC personnel aimed to support the school in maintaining a safe, clean, and conducive learning environment for both students and faculty members. The activity also highlighted the importance of unity and volunteerism within the community.

During the program, personnel worked alongside school staff and volunteers in carrying out various cleaning and maintenance tasks. These included cleaning classrooms and hallways, clearing debris around the school grounds, arranging furniture, and assisting in minor repairs and beautification efforts to help prepare the facilities for the opening of classes.
