DA-PCC, CMU renew partnership to strengthen livestock R&D

The Department of Agriculture-Philippine Carabao Center (DA-PCC) and Central Mindanao University (CMU) marked a significant milestone in their longstanding collaboration through the signing of a 25-year Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing research, innovation, and capacity-building initiatives for the Philippine livestock sector.

The renewed partnership provides a strengthened framework for collaborative research and development programs focusing on carabao and other livestock species, in accordance with Republic Act No. 7307 and Republic Act No. 12308. Through this agreement, both institutions aim to accelerate technology generation, knowledge exchange, and human resource development to address emerging challenges and opportunities in the livestock industry.

The agreement is expected to open new avenues for collaborative research, technology development, and institutional strengthening.

DA-PCC strengthens One Health and Risk Assessment capacities to Q Fever

The Department of Agriculture-Philippine Carabao Center (DA-PCC), through its Research and Development Division and Animal Health Program, actively participated in the 2nd Animal Health and Welfare Risk Analysis Training Workshop: One Health Risk Analysis (OHRA) for Q Fever held on May 25–29, 2026, in Clark, Pampanga, to strengthen its expertise in zoonotic disease prevention and risk assessment.

The five-day workshop, organized through the collaboration of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), and members of the Philippine Inter-Agency Committee on Zoonoses (PhilCZ), aimed to strengthen the application of the One Health approach to the management of Q fever disease. DA-PCC strengthens procurement readiness for Sagip Saka, milk feeding program implementation

Ensuring the efficient implementation of the Sagip Saka Act and the National Milk Feeding Program, DA-PCC personnel actively participated in a two-day orientation workshop on the “New Government Procurement Act (RA 12009), PhilGEPS Modernization, and Sagip Saka Implementation” held on June 2-3 at the DA-PCC National Headquarters, Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija.

The workshop equipped participants with a deeper understanding of the Sagip Saka Act and its procurement mechanisms, including negotiated procurement procedures, documentary requirements, and contract management, while facilitating direct market linkages between farmers’ cooperatives and associations (FCAs) and government feeding programs. Sa loob ng 299 araw, nakapagtala siya ng 3,883.7 kg ng gatas—ang pinakamataas na milk yield sa mga gatasang kalabaw ng DA-PCC. Siya ay isang crossbred buffalo na may 87.5% Bulgarian Murrah at 12.5% swamp buffalo genetics, mula sa institutional herd ng DA-PCC sa University of the Philippines Los Baños.

10 buntis na kalabaw, bagong pag-asa sa mga magsasaka ng Leyte

Bilang bahagi ng patuloy na pagpapalakas ng industriya ng paghahayupan at pagsusulong ng kabuhayan sa kanayunan, ipinagkatiwala ng DA-Philippine Carabao Center sa Visayas State University (DA-PCC sa VSU) ang 10 buntis na mestisang gatasang kalabaw sa mga benepisyaryong magsasaka sa Carigara at Baybay City, Leyte noong Hunyo 2.

Isinagawa ang pamamahagi sa ilalim ng Carabao Herd Buildup Project, kung saan dalawang buntis na gatasang kalabaw ang ipinagkatiwala sa Macalpi Community Multipurpose Cooperative sa Carigara, habang walo naman ang tinanggap ng Hibunawan Integrated Farmers’ Association sa Baybay City. MINDANAO’S BEST, SURE JUD KO! 🫵🏼

Mula sa Durian Capital of the Philippines, isa sa mga tanyag na kainan ang Sana’s Original Kabawan & Bulaloan, na mahigit tatlong dekada nang dinarayo at binabalik-balikan ng mga Davaoeño dahil sa natatangi nitong mga putaheng gawa sa karne ng kalabaw.

Isa sa kanilang pinakatampok na produkto ang hinalang, isang putaheng gawa sa carabeef na dahan-dahang pinapakuluan sa sabaw na may luya at sibuyas, na nagbibigay ng natatanging anghang kung saan hango ang pangalang “halang”. Kilala ito sa matapang, maanghang, at maasim na lasa na sinasabing nakatutulong sa pag-alis ng “hangover.”

Hindi rin pahuhuli ang kanilang crispy tapa flakes, na gawa sa pinira-pirasong karne ng kalabaw na pinirito hanggang maging tuyo at malutong. Karaniwan itong sinasamahan ng kalamansi at mainit na kanin, dahilan upang maging isa ito sa mga paboritong almusal ng maraming Davaoeño.

Ligtas na produktong gatas, isinulong sa Food Safety BizTalk sa Cagayan Valley

Pinalawak ng DA-Philippine Carabao Center (DA-PCC) ang adbokasiya nito sa food safety sa pamamagitan ng pagsasagawa ng dalawang araw na Business Talk: Food Safety Series sa kampus ng Cagayan State University (CSU) noong Mayo 28–29.

Pinangunahan ng DA-PCC Carabao Enterprise Development Section–Food Safety Project (CEDS-FSP), sa pakikipagtulungan ng DA-PCC sa CSU, ang pagsasanay na nilahukan ng mga magkakalabaw, kooperatiba, at iba pang nakikinabang sa industriya ng paggagatasan sa rehiyon.

Layunin ng aktibidad na palawakin ang kaalaman ng mga kalahok hinggil sa mga pangunahing prinsipyo ng food safety, mga umiiral na regulasyon, at mga kinakailangang pamantayan upang matiyak ang kaligtasan at kalidad ng mga produktong gatas. : The DA-Philippine Carabao Center (DA-PCC) participated in the 2027 School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP) Plan and Budget Preparation on June 1 at the DA-PCC National Headquarters in the Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the National Dairy Authority (NDA).

The planning activity, conducted together with the National Carabao Stakeholders' Association (NCISA), aimed to harmonize proposed plans, targets, implementation strategies, and budget requirements for the 2027 SBFP Milk Component. Discussions focused on strengthening child nutrition initiatives and enhancing the role of dairy farmer cooperatives nationwide.

DA-PCC Executive Director III Dr. Liza Battad underscored the importance of NDA’s participation in ensuring effective program planning and coordination, citing the agency’s key role in promoting and developing the country’s dairy industry.
