| “See you in Bohol for the 13th NCC”.

The 12th National Carabao Conference (NCC) concluded its two-day convention with a turnover ceremony for Dr. Caro Salces, the newly elected NCISA president.

“Thank you, ACDI Multipurpose Cooperative, for accepting the challenge to host the next NCC,” Dr. Salces said.

The BODACO chairperson and now NCISA president also shared his vision as he assumed the position—to help every cooperative strengthen collaboration within the association and amplify their voices to further contribute to the growth of the carabao industry.

| Three techno-demo sessions take center stage on the second day of the 12th National Carabao Conference (NCC) through the learning platform Cara-Aralan Farmers Field Day (FFD) at the Sorsogon Municipal Capitol today.

The first cluster featured a pili pastillas-making demonstration by Gubat St. Anthony Cooperative, the host co-op for the 12th NCC.

Made from locally produced pili nuts, GSAC’s version of pastillas showcases the creamy texture of carabao milk and the nutty flavor of caramelized pili, using sangkaka, a sweetener made from boiled sugarcane juice.

The efficient use of solar energy in carabao farming was highlighted in the second cluster by Triple 2 Agri-Industrial Corporation, GSAC’s branch for agri-services.

DA-PCC at UPLB CBED Coordinator Anna Reylene Montes emphasized the advantages of utilizing solar energy in carabao farming, noting its role in reducing operational costs and ensuring power availability during electricity shortages.

Also featured was the Dairy Box on Wheels, inspired by DA-PCC’s Dairy Box initiative, which was presented as a technology that can bring fresh, quality products from local farmers to consumers across the Bicol Region.

The Cara-Aralan FFD served as the final activity of the 12th NCC. The next NCC will be held in Bohol, to be hosted by ACDI Multipurpose Cooperative and Bohol Dairy Cooperative in partnership with DA-PCC at Ubay Stock Farm.

: First Dairy Box on wheels spotted in Sorsogon City!

Your one-stop shop for dairy products is now available on wheels as the first Dairy Box mobile truck paved its way through Sorsogon City as part of the featured innovations during the 12th National Carabao Conference.

Managed by Triple 2 Agri-Industrial Corporation in partnership with Gubat St. Anthony Cooperative (GSAC), this project aims to promote and distribute locally sourced dairy products, specifically focusing on carabao-based dairy products incorporated with Sorsogon delicacies such as pili nuts and cocoa-based products.

Inspired by DA-PCC’s Dairy Box concept, the mobile truck operates as a moving delicatessen, bringing fresh, quality products from local farmers to consumers across the Bicol Region.

| Bohol to host NCC anew

The next National Carabao Conference (NCC) will be held in Bohol, to be hosted by ACDI Multipurpose Cooperative and co-hosted by Bohol Dairy Cooperative (BODACO), the primary conduit cooperative of DA-PCC at Ubay Stock Farm (DA-PCC at USF).

During the 3rd NCISA General Assembly, members of the board of trustees agreed for ACDI MPC to host next year’s NCC.

ACDI Multipurpose Cooperative is an institutional cooperative serving members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). It is recognized as the Most Outstanding Large Category cooperative in NCR by the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) and as the largest cooperative in the country, with an asset base of more than PHP54 billion as of 2023.

Meanwhile, the BODACO, situated in Ubay, Bohol, specializes in milk processing, turning local raw milk into pasteurized drinks distributed widely through school-based milk feeding programs. Aside from pasteurized fresh milk and yogurt drinks offered by the co-op, BODACO is known for its signature Chocobao, a chocolate-flavored carabao milk product.

Aside from the host announcement, matters such as refining the NCISA structure, membership qualifications and dues, and proposed amendments to the Articles of Incorporation were also discussed.

An election for the association’s new officers was also included in the agenda.

Imelda Bautista, a member of Aces Philproducers Corporation, was elected as the new NCISA treasurer, while the other board of trustees per island cluster are as follows:

"Gatas ng Pag-asa"

[Isang maikling pagtatanghal para sa 12th National Carabao Conference ng Gubat St. Anthony Cooperative at ng Triple 2 Agri-Industrial Corporation]

Noong 2019, iniulat ng Rehiyong Bicol (Region V) na may 13,000 batang wala pang limang taong gulang ang nakaranas ng pagkaantala sa paglaki (stunted), labis na kapayatan (wasted), o kulang sa timbang (underweight), na nagpapakita ng patuloy at mataas na antas ng malnutrisyon sa lugar. Dahil sa malnutrisyon, humihina ang katawan at nahihirapan sa pag-aaral. Kailangan ng solusyon.

Ang DA-Philippine Carabao Center ay may mahalagang papel sa National Milk Feeding Program sa pamamagitan ng pagkolekta, pagproseso, at pagbibigay ng masustansyang gatas ng kalabaw sa mga paaralan at daycare centers. Malaki ang naitutulong nito sa nutrisyon ng mga bata, sa pagpapataas ng kita ng mga dairy cooperatives, at sa pagpapalawak ng kakayahan ng pamahalaan na maging sapat sa suplay ng gatas para sa mga programang pangnutrisyon.

Nagsisimula nang matupad ang pangarap na iyon. Ang inisyatibong ito, na alinsunod sa Republic Act No. 11037 o ang Masustansyang Pagkain Para Sa Batang Pilipino Act of 2018, ay nagbunga ng mahahalagang epekto para sa ating bayan.

Simula pa noong 2019, nakapagbigay na ang programa ng milyun-milyong pakete ng gatas sa mga benepisyaryo. Sa taong panuruan 2021–2022 lamang, mahigit 3.5 milyong bata ang nakinabang. Ang bawat baso ng gatas ay hindi lamang nutrisyon, kundi lakas at pag-asa para sa kanilang kinabukasan.

Sa pamamagitan ng programang ito, nabuo rin ang isang matatag na pamilihan para sa ating mga maliliit na magsasaka. Ang mga kooperatibang tinulungan ng DA-PCC ay nakalikha ng mahigit PHP2 bilyon na kita. Ibig sabihin, habang binabantayan natin ang kalusugan ng mga bata, pinalalakas din natin ang kabuhayan ng ating mga magsasaka. Ang programang ito ay higit pa sa nutrisyon. Ito ay tungkol sa pagkakaisa ng mga magsasaka, pamilya, at institusyon.

Patunay ang programang ito na kapag nagbuklod ang kooperatiba, pamahalaan, paaralan, at pamilya, nagiging posible ang pagbabago. Ang gatas na ating ibinabahagi ay sagisag ng malasakit, pagtutulungan, at pag-asa. Patuloy nating palakasin ang ugnayan na ito. Sa bawat baso ng gatas, tayo’y nag-iinvest sa kinabukasan ng ating mga anak, at sa isang malusog, matatag, at maunlad na sambayanan. Sama-sama nating ipagpatuloy ang adhikain na walang batang Pilipino ang papasok sa paaralan ng gutom. NCC highlights roots of DA-PCC, empowers FCAs through expanded mandate

The 12th National Carabao Conference (NCC), with the theme “Sulong Industriya ng Pagkakalabawan: Pinalakas na Pagsasama-sama Tungo sa Pag-unlad,” highlighted the collective vision for the continued development of the carabao industry—from reminiscing about its origins to strengthening farmer’s cooperatives and associations (FCAs) toward business continuity and success.

| DA-PCC Executive Director Dr. Liza G. Battad underscored the positive impact of the carabao industry and the agency’s transition to an expanded mandate.

Dr. Battad opened her plenary talk on “Business Continuity for the Carabao Industry in AIDCA” with a dashboard of the agency’s contributions in the industry, including the steady increase in genetically improved calves and the development of “Dalisay” and “Matipuno”—the Philippines’ own dairy-type and meat-type lines, respectively.

To date, dairy carabaos comprise 50.63% of the total national dairy animal inventory of 161,868 (PSA).

She also highlighted DA-PCC’s proactive support to the school-based milk feeding program which is anticipated to bring bigger gains for its assisted FCAs.

With the implementation of the Animal Industry Development and Competitiveness Act (AIDCA), Dr. Battad emphasized the agency’s pragmatic research and development agenda for other livestock commodities including cattle, swine, and goat. She said the approach is to introduce new frameworks and initiatives such as strategic use of sexed-sorted semen, other breeding techniques, IP-sustained technologies, and sustainable dairy farming systems.

All these efforts and forward-thinking approach, she said, are aimed at increasing productivity, strengthening value chain, and ushering dairy farmers toward becoming more competitive.

| Tagay-Pugay 2026🥛

Symbolizing the continuously advancing dairy carabao industry, a ceremonial milk pour and toast were conducted as part of the 12th National Carabao Conference in Sorsogon City, Sorsogon, earlier today.

DA-PCC at UPLB Center Director Dr. Thelma Saludes, together with DA-PCC Executive Director III Dr. Liza Battad and NCISA President Dr. Rene Hermo, paid tribute to the farmers who have brought the industry to where it is today.

“Once considered only an incidental product of our agency’s genetic improvement program, the value of the milk we produce today is bringing many successes to our farmers and their communities,” Dr. Saludes said.

A community dance presentation of “Wow na Wow sa Kalabaw,” featuring DA-PCC icons KalaBoy and KalaGirl, followed the ceremonial milk toast.
