Take note of the spelling for the names on the map: Banacalan, Ulan, Cauit, Gazan and so on. If you are doing research, be sure to check under these name spellings as well as the modern day spelling.

Ramon Madrigal - He is the author of the 290 page
"The Province of Marinduque", a first prize winner in a contest on the writing of history of the province in 1963.

Among many things, this important document brought forth to the public the Pulang Lupa story and contributed to the writing of The Journal of Military History 61 (April 1997) The U.S. Army's Pacification of Marinduque, Philippine Islands, April 1900-April 1901by Andrew J. Birtle.

Ramon left us with a wonderful message that should be a reminder for all of us that are contributing to the history of Marinduque.

The June 1982 edition Blackbelt magazine contained an article by Halford E Jones entitled “Sikaran:Ancient Art of Filipino Foot-Fighting”. The article is accompanied by several photos of the members and instructiors of the Marinduque Sikaran-Karate Club. Sadly, no one was named in the photos. Maybe some will recognize these young men.
