𝐇𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒 | 𝐂𝐇𝐒𝐒 𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐒𝐑𝟒𝟑 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) convened its 𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 on 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟏𝟗, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, to deliberate on the College’s endorsement of 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐅𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐳 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟒𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲-𝐖𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬.

During the meeting, Fernandez presented her vision, analysis of key university and national issues, and proposed plans of action centered on 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐞, 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐦, 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭. An open forum then followed, where students raised questions on topics such as 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 in the Board of Regents, 𝐆𝐄 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬, 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐔𝐏-𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞.

After a period of caucus and deliberation, degree programs and home organizations expressed their manifestations and endorsements, citing Fernandez’s track record of service, leadership, and commitment to advancing student concerns.

Concluding the proceedings, 𝐂𝐇𝐒𝐒 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐅𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐳 𝐚𝐬 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲-𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟒𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭. Ultimately, the meeting reaffirmed the College’s commitment to meaningful student participation and collective engagement in shaping the future of student representation across the UP System.

𝐈𝐍 𝐅𝐎𝐂𝐔𝐒 | 𝐒𝐑𝟒𝟑 𝐍𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞 𝐅𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐳 𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐔𝐏-𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 & 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞

During the CHSS Town Hall Meeting, SR43 Nominee Heroine Fernandez expounded on her proposal for a 𝐔𝐏-𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 & 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, first presented in her Vision Paper and further discussed during the open forum.

When asked about what the proposed alliance would look like across the entire UP System and how it would intensify the national, scientific, and mass-oriented character of culture and the arts, Fernandez emphasized that the 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬. She explained the need to identify representatives in fostering stronger coordination, collective action, and sustained collaboration.

According to Fernandez, such an alliance can serve as a platform for 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬 to further advance sectoral concerns and national democratic advocacies through culture and the arts.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐬. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐅𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐳 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟒𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲-𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐍𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. This is following the successful conduct of the CHSS Town Hall Meeting and the thorough deliberations undertaken by the degree programs, academic organizations, student leaders, and constituents.

The College carefully assessed her vision, platform, and commitment to advancing the interests and welfare of the student body. Thus, this endorsement reflects the confidence of the CHSS community in Ms. Fernandez’s capacity to uphold a genuine and responsive student leadership.

With this formal endorsement, the CHSS community stands united in supporting Ms. Fernandez as she advances to the University-wide deliberations. We remain hopeful that the principles she champions and the vision she wants to forward will continue to strengthen student representation inside and outside the University.

The College extends its gratitude to all students and home organizations who participated in the deliberative process and contributed to this collective decision. The College of Humanities and Social Sciences student body is currently convening for a Town Hall Meeting with SR43 Nominee, 𝐌𝐬. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐅𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐳, introducing herself to the body to elaborate on her plans of action. This is to deliberate on whether the College will formally endorse her as its official candidate for the upcoming 𝟒𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲-𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐍𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬.

This meeting again serves as a platform for students to engage in meaningful discussion, raise questions, share insights, and collectively assess Ms. Fernandez’s vision, platform, and qualifications for the position. Sa panahon ngayon, mahirap mahalin ang isang bayan na patuloy na sinisira ng korapsyon, kahirapan, at sistemang pumipigil sa atin upang matamasa ang tunay na kalayaan. Labis pang pahirap ang pagnakaw sa mga espasyong nagtuturo sa atin na magtanong, sumuri, at lumaban.

Kung kaya’t sa 𝙞𝙠𝙖-128 𝙣𝙖 𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙖𝙧𝙮𝙤 𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙠𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙖𝙖𝙣, hindi sapat ang pagwagayway lamang ng ating bandila kung ang edukasyong humuhubog sa sangkaestudyantehan ay para lamang gawin tayong murang lakas-paggawa. Sa harap ng panukalang GE Reform na lalo pang nagpapaliit sa espasyo ng humanidades at agham panlipunan, hindi sapat ang pagdiriwang kung ang sining, kasaysayan, at kritikal na pag-iisip ay itinuturing na hindi mahalaga. At sa gitna ng kahirapan at korapsyong dulot ng rehimeng Marcos-Duterte at ng impluwensya ng imperyalismong US, mananatiling mailap ang tunay na pambansang demokrasya.

Bilang mga mag-aaral ng Humanities and Social Sciences, mariing naninindigan tayo na ang edukasyon ay dapat mapagpalaya, at ang pagtatanggol rito ay pagtatanggol din sa ating kakayahang maunawaan ang lipunan, hamunin ang inhustisya, at makibaka para sa tunay na kalayaan.

Dahil hangga't nagpapatuloy ang mga puwersang pumipigil rito, hindi natin matatamasa ang ganap na kasarinlan. Hangga't may nagugutom, may inaapi, at may mga tanikalang bumibihag sa isip at kinabukasan ng mamamayan, hindi pa tapos ang laban.

As we continue to advocate for the rights and welfare of students across institutions, the National Union of Students of the Philippines – Davao Chapter (NUSP-Davao) is launching a survey on the Perceptions of the General Education (GE) Curriculum and the Proposed 2026 Reduction.

General Education courses are a fundamental component of higher education, fostering critical thinking, social awareness, effective communication, and a holistic understanding of society. These courses play a key role in shaping not only professionals, but socially responsible citizens.

With the proposed reduction of GE units in 2026, it becomes essential to understand the perspectives of those directly affected. What do students and faculty think about the current GE curriculum? What are the possible implications of reducing GE units?

This survey aims to gather insights from students and faculty across public and private institutions to assess the value of GE and examine the potential impact of the proposed reform.
We assert that students and educators have the right to be heard in decisions that shape the direction of education. Policies must be informed by the lived experiences and perspectives of the academic community.

𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐤𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐚 𝐧𝐠 𝐊𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐡𝐨, kasama ang buong Humanidades at Agham Panlipunan, 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐠𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐝-𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐬 𝐧𝐠 "𝐑𝐞𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲" 𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐚 𝐦𝐠𝐚 𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞 𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐀 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐧𝐚 𝐛𝐮𝐦𝐮𝐛𝐮𝐨 𝐬𝐚 𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐲𝐨 𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐲𝐨𝐧 𝐧𝐚 𝐑𝐚𝐝𝐲𝐨 𝐈𝐬𝐤𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 sa ilalim ng kanilang Audio Production na klase. Sa isang pamantasang dapat ligtas para sa malayang pag-iisip at pamamahayag, bakit ginagawang target ang mga estudyanteng ang tanging layunin ay magsalita at maglingkod sa katotohanan?

Kung kaya’t matatag naming pinapanawagan sa administrasyon ng Unibersidad na agarang 𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 (𝐂𝐀𝐅𝐇𝐑) 𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐰𝐚 𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐰, 𝐤𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐤𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐨, 𝐚𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐤𝐬𝐲𝐨𝐧 upang protektahan ang mga estudyante at demokratikong espasyo sa loob ng unibersidad.

Kami sa Kolehiyo ng Humanidades at Agham Panlipunan ay militanteng naninindigan para sa akademikong kalayaan, press freedom, karapatang pantao at para tuldukan ang red-tagging na umiiral sa aming pamantasan.
