The decision was made and agreed by the Local government unit of Mercedes and the other participating sectors in support of the nationwide efforts to prioritize energy efficiency and ensure the sustainability of essential services.

SAFETY MEASURES FOR HOLY WEEK AND SUMMER SEASON
25 March 2026

In anticipation of the increased influx of tourists during the Holy Week and summer season, all Local Government Units (LGUs), through their respective Tourism Offices, are strongly enjoined to intensify safety, monitoring, and coordination efforts, particularly in destinations where swimming and water-based activities are prominent.

In this regard, all concerned are advised to undertake the following:

1. Conduct Regular Inspection and Monitoring
Ensure that all tourism establishments such as beaches, resorts, pools, and similar facilities are compliant with existing safety standards, including the installation of warning signages, delineation of swimming areas, and availability of emergency response protocols.
2. Strengthen Inter-Agency Coordination
Closely coordinate with Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (LDRRMOs), Philippine Coast Guard, PNP, BFP, and other relevant agencies to ensure preparedness and immediate response capability.
3. Ensure Deployment of Trained Safety Personnel
Encourage and verify that Tourism Enterprises deploy personnel trained in Life Saving, Basic First Aid, Water Search and Rescue (WASAR), and Mountain Search and Rescue (MOSAR) in strategic and high-risk areas.
4. Public Safety Information Dissemination
Actively disseminate advisories and reminders to tourists and residents on swimming safety, weather conditions, and emergency hotlines through various communication platforms.
5. Establish Incident Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism
Maintain a system for real-time monitoring and ensure prompt reporting of any incidents to concerned authorities.

Kalinisan para sa Kasaysayan:
2025 National Day of Youth Volunteerism

In observance of the 2025 National Day of Youth Volunteerism, the youth and community leaders of the Municipality of Mercedes, Eastern Samar came together for a meaningful cause through “Kalinisan para sa Kasaysayan”, a clean-up drive dedicated to preserving our local heritage.

The activity focused on the clean-up drive in the historical site of the former U.S. Navy Patrol Base during World War II located in Barangay Port Kennedy, a place that holds significant value in our local and national history. Through collective effort, participants worked hand in hand to clean, restore, and protect the area, ensuring that this important landmark remains a source of pride and learning for present and future generations.

This initiative was made possible through the active participation of the SK Officials of Mercedes, the Barangay Officials of Port Kennedy, and the Youth Volunteers from San Beda University – Graduate School of Business, Executive Student Council (AY 2025–2026). Their dedication and volunteer spirit truly reflect the power of youth leadership and civic responsibility.

More than just a clean-up drive, Kalinisan para sa Kasaysayan is a reminder that safeguarding our history is a shared responsibility. By caring for our historical sites, we honor the past while inspiring the youth to take an active role in nation-building.
