LOOK: Empowering Pantawid Beneficiaries Through Self-Help Groups

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 7, through the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), conducted a Training on Self-Help Groups (SHeGs) on August 27–28, 2026, at the Don Celestino Martinez Sr. Sports and Cultural Complex.

The two-day training brought together City/Municipal Links (C/MLs) from Cluster 5, representing Bogo City, Borbon, Daanbantayan, Medellin, San Remigio, and Sogod. The 4Ps Municipal Operations Office (MOO) of Medellin was also represented by its Municipal Link.

The training aimed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of C/MLs in facilitating and supporting the development of Self-Help Groups among Pantawid beneficiaries.

The Self-Help Group brings beneficiaries together to learn the importance of saving, managing finances responsibly, supporting one another, and exploring opportunities that can help improve their families’ financial well-being.

Through collective savings and shared responsibility, members are encouraged to develop good financial habits, strengthen their capacity to manage resources, and build confidence in making informed financial decisions.

More than just a group that saves money, the SHeG promotes unity, trust, discipline, and mutual support. It provides members with an opportunity to learn from one another, share experiences, and work together toward common goals.

The initiative also seeks to help families become more financially prepared and resilient by encouraging responsible financial practices and access to opportunities that may contribute to improved livelihoods and a more stable future.

Through the continued support of DSWD, the 4Ps, community partners, and the active participation of beneficiaries, Self-Help Groups can become a meaningful avenue for families to take small but collective steps toward greater financial independence.

CMAT FUNCTIONALITY ASSESSMENT | Municipal Operations Office of Medellin

The Municipal Operations Office of Medellin conducted its CMAT Functionality Assessment today, August 26, 2026, to assess the functionality of the office and its convergence efforts with the Local Government Unit of Medellin.

The assessment was conducted by Social Welfare Officer III Ma’am Mery Joy Caranzo, who also provided technical assistance and guidance to the MOO staff.

As we end the 1st Semester of 2026, the activity also gave the team time to look back and identify what we need to START, CONTINUE, and STOP as we move forward to the 2nd Semester. It is a simple reminder for all of us to stay focused, improve where needed, and continue working together toward our goals.

We are happy to share that the Municipal Operations Office of Medellin received a 100% functionality rating.

Our sincere thanks to the Local Government Unit of Medellin, headed by Municipal Mayor Hon. Edwin L. Salimbangon, and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, headed by Ma’am Janice B. Sumalinog, for their unwavering support to the Department and the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

Thank you for the continued partnership and support. Together, we can continue doing our work better and, most importantly, serve our beneficiaries with commitment and purpose.

Congratulations, MOO Medellin! πŸ’™

YOUTH IN ACTION | Building Leaders, Creating Change in Medellin

The Convergence Team Medellin, in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 7 through the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), successfully conducted the Trainers’ Training on the Youth Development Session (YDS) Modules on August 21–22, 2026, at The Tree House Grill, Medellin, Cebu.

The two-day training gathered 32 student leaders from different schools in Medellin, providing them with a platform to connect with fellow youth leaders, exchange experiences, and develop their knowledge and skills in youth development.

The participants were trained to facilitate meaningful Youth Development Sessions (YDS) in their schools, communities, and among youth beneficiaries of the Pantawid program. Through interactive discussions and activities, they learned how to promote Positive Youth Development (PYD), strengthen leadership, build healthy relationships, make responsible choices, and encourage their peers to pursue positive goals.

This initiative also serves as a response to the challenges faced by young people today. By equipping youth leaders with the confidence and skills to become peer facilitators, we create a network of young people who can help promote safe spaces, positive choices, and meaningful opportunities for their fellow youth.

More than completing a two-day training, these 32 student leaders are now part of a growing movement of young leaders in Medellinβ€”ready to share what they have learned, influence their peers, and become catalysts for positive change.

The Convergence Team Medellin extends its sincere appreciation to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Medellin headed by Hon. Edwin L. Salimbangon, through the Municipal Social Welfare and Development (MSWD) Office, headed by Ma'am Janice B. Sumalinog for its valuable support and assistance, including the provision of funding that helped make this youth development initiative possible. Your continued commitment to empowering young people is an investment in the future of the community.

Our gratitude also goes to everyone who contributed to the success of the training, especially our facilitators, partners, schools, and student leaders who willingly shared their time, energy, and commitment.

When young people are empowered, communities become stronger. When youth lead, positive change begins.
