DAVAO CITY โ€” The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI continues to empower young Davaoeรฑos through the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES). As of the latest data, the office has placed 6,230 youth beneficiaries across Davao Region, providing them with temporary employment opportunities while supporting their pursuit of education and helping them gain valuable workplace experience.

These accomplishments reflect the call of DOLE Secretary Francis N. Tolentino to strengthen programs that create meaningful employment opportunities for the youth while helping them become more productive, skilled, and prepared for the demands of the world of work.

Among the 6,230 youth beneficiaries provided with temporary employment through SPES, 5,799 were students, comprising 309 Junior High School students, 2,157 Senior High School students, 3,317 college students, and 16 technical-vocational learners, while 431 were out-of-school youth. Beyond assisting students, SPES has also provided employment opportunities to 2,156 graduates of Senior High School, College, and Technical-Vocational programs, giving them valuable work experience and helping strengthen their readiness for employment.

Most of the beneficiaries are deployed in government offices, private establishments, service-oriented businesses, and other industries where their acquired skills and qualifications can be utilized.

DAVAO CITY โ€” The second tranche of the minimum wage increase for private sector workers in the Davao Region takes effect on September 1, 2026, pursuant to Wage Order No. RB XI-24. The daily minimum wage for workers in the agriculture sector will increase from Php515.00 to Php525.00, while the minimum wage for workers in the non-agriculture sector will rise from Php525.00 to Php540.00.

The first tranche of the wage increase took effect on March 13, 2026.

Labor Secretary Francis N. Tolentino constantly reminds employers to comply with the mandated wage adjustments, emphasizing the Departmentโ€™s commitment to ensuring that workers receive the wages due to them under existing labor laws and regulations.

Department of Labor and Employment XI (DOLE XI) Regional Director and Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board XI (RTWPB XI) Chairperson Atty. Dax B. Villaruel likewise called on employers in the region to faithfully implement the new wage rates.

โ€œEmployers are encouraged to implement the mandated wage adjustments as a concrete expression of respect for workersโ€™ rights and recognition of their valuable contributions to the enterprise. Compliance with fair labor standards not only promotes the welfare of workers but also helps sustain industrial peace, productivity, and a healthy working environment,โ€ Villaruel said.

Compliance with the prescribed minimum wage is part of the regular labor inspection agenda of DOLE. Labor inspectors will verify establishmentsโ€™ compliance with the wage order during routine inspections. Previous inspection records show that payment of the prescribed minimum wage has consistently ranked among the top areas of non-compliance in recent years.

DOLE XI also reminds the public that Barangay Micro Business Enterprises (BMBEs) with valid Certificates of Authority issued by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) are not covered by the minimum wage law pursuant to Republic Act No. 9178, or the Barangay Micro Business Enterprises Act of 2002.

The forum underscores the shared commitment of DOLE and DPWH to promote voluntary labor compliance in the construction sector and ensure that workersโ€™ rights and welfare remain integral to the implementation of infrastructure projects.
