Key functions include regulating slaughterhouses, controlling stray animals, enforcing animal welfare laws, and providing veterinary services.
Key Functions of the Office the City Veterinarian
1. Meat Inspection and Safety: Regulate the slaughter of animals for human consumption, inspect meat/dairy products, and monitor sanitation in slaughterhouses and processing facilities.
2. Animal Disease Control: Take necessary measures to prevent, treat, and eradicate animal diseases (e.g., rabies vaccination programs, surveillance, and monitoring of outbreaks).
3. Regulation of Animal Handling: Regulate the keeping of domestic animals, manage city pounds, and license animal facilities.
4. Animal Welfare Enforcement: Enforce laws regarding the prevention of cruelty to animals.
5. Public Health and Education: Educate the public on responsible pet ownership and zoonotic diseases (diseases transferable from animals to humans).
6. Field Services: Provide veterinary services, including vaccinations and, in some jurisdictions, free routine, at least once a week to barangays.
7. Technical Advice: Advise the Mayor and the Sangguniang Panlungsod on matters relating to veterinary services and animal production.
8. The office also acts as a front-line service in the aftermath of natural calamities, managing the rehabilitation of animal populations.

Ang Office of the City Veterinarian(OCV) sa Pilipinas gimandoan sa Local Government Code (RA 7160) ug nagkalain-laing espesyal nga mga balaod aron mapanalipdan ang kahimsog sa mga hayop, masiguro ang kaluwasan sa pagkaon pinaagi sa inspeksyon sa karne, ug mapalambo ang kahimsog sa publiko pinaagi sa pagkontrol sa mga sakit nga zoonotic. Ang mga nag-unang gimbuhaton naglakip sa pag-regulate sa mga slaughterhouse, pagkontrol sa mga hayop nga naglatagaw, pagpatuman sa mga balaod sa kaayohan sa hayop, ug paghatag og serbisyo beterinaryo.
Mga Pangunang Gimbuhaton sa Office of the City Veterinarian;
1. Inspeksyon ug Kaluwasan sa Karne: Pag-regulate sa pag-ihaw sa mga hayop alang sa konsumo sa tawo, pag-inspeksyon sa karne/mga produkto sa gatas, ug pagmonitor sa sanitasyon sa mga slaughterhouse ug mga pasilidad sa pagproseso. ( lakip ang tanan pasilidad nga namaligya ug karne sa publiko na konsumo sama sa mga barbequehan, lechonan ug uban pa)
2. Pagkontrol sa Sakit sa mga Hayop: Paghimo sa mga kinahanglanon nga lakang aron mapugngan, matambalan, ug mapuo ang mga sakit sa mga hayop (pananglitan, mga programa sa pagbakuna batok sa rabies, pagpaniid, ug pagmonitor sa mga pag-ulbo sa sakit).
3. Regulasyon sa Pagdumala sa mga Hayop: Pag-regulate sa pag-atiman sa mga binuhing hayop, pagdumala sa mga animal pound sa siyudad, ug paglisensya sa mga pasilidad sa hayop.
4. Pagpatuman sa Kaayohan sa mga Hayop: Pagpatuman sa mga balaod bahin sa pagpugong sa pagmaltrato sa mga hayop.
5. Panglawas ug Edukasyon sa Publiko: Pag-edukar sa publiko bahin sa responsable nga pagpanag-iya og binuhi ug mga pag edukar sa sakit nga zoonotic (mga sakit nga mabalhin gikan sa mga hayop ngadto sa mga tawo).
6. Mga Serbisyo sa Natad: Paghatag og mga serbisyo beterinaryo, lakip ang mga pagbakuna ug, sa pipila ka mga hurisdiksyon, libre nga rutina, labing menos kausa sa usa ka semana sa mga barangay.
7. Teknikal nga Tambag: Pagtambag sa Mayor ug sa Sangguniang Panlungsod sa mga butang nga may kalabotan sa serbisyo beterinaryo ug produksiyon sa hayop.
8. Ang opisina nagsilbi usab nga front-line service human sa mga natural nga kalamidad, nga nagdumala sa rehabilitasyon sa populasyon sa mga hayop.
