The 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐢 proudly celebrates another milestone in its commitment to protecting children's rights and promoting their welfare!

During the 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲 held on October 8, 2026, at Sotogrande Hotel, Davao City, the City of Mati was recognized for its outstanding achievements in child-friendly governance.

✨ 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝-𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 (𝐒𝐂𝐅𝐋𝐆)
– Awarded for CY 2022 and 2023, with the City of Mati once again among the five (5) out of 49 local government units in the Davao Region that passed the 2025 assessment.

🏆𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝-𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 (𝐏𝐀𝐂𝐅𝐌𝐂) – The City of Mati was one of only two (2) LGUs in the Davao Region to receive this prestigious recognition and the sole awardee from the Province of Davao Oriental!

These remarkable achievements reflect the collective dedication of the City Government, the 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 (𝐂𝐒𝐖𝐃𝐎), the Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC), partner agencies, and stakeholders in building a safe, inclusive, and child-friendly community.

The City Committee Against Trafficking and Violence Against Women and Children (CCAT-VAW) and the City Council for the Protection of Children (CCPC) conducted their Joint 3rd Quarter Meeting, led by City Mayor Joel Mayo Z. Almario.

The meeting provided an avenue for the councils and partner agencies to discuss the current situation of cases involving children, including concerns related to abuse, exploitation, violence, and other situations affecting the safety and well-being of children.

Members also shared updates on the interventions, protective services, and prevention activities undertaken through the respective councils, highlighting the importance of coordinated and timely responses among agencies and stakeholders.

The councils further discussed proposed and succeeding activities aimed at strengthening prevention efforts, improving responses to cases, and ensuring appropriate support and services for children and victim-survivors of abuse.

Through continued collaboration, case monitoring, and coordinated action, the CCAT-VAW and CCPC remain committed to strengthening the City's child protection and anti-violence mechanisms and creating a safer, more responsive, and child-friendly community. 💙

𝐄𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐓𝐇 𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇 𝐀𝐃𝐕𝐎𝐂𝐀𝐂𝐘 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐀𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒! 💙

The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) – Mati, in partnership with our stakeholders, brought its school-based advocacy and awareness campaign to Lawigan National High School and Mati School of Arts and Trades (MSAT).

Through meaningful discussions and interactive learning, students were oriented on important issues affecting children and young people, including:

🔹 OSAEC-CSAEM – promoting online safety and protecting children from online sexual exploitation and abuse
🔹 RA 9344 – understanding children in conflict with the law and the importance of restorative approaches
🔹 Anti-Bastos Law (RA 11313) – promoting respect and safe spaces for everyone
🔹 Sexual Abuse and Child Protection – knowing one’s rights and how to seek help
🔹 Anti-Drug Awareness – making informed choices and avoiding harmful influences
🔹 Family Development and Positive Relationships – strengthening family support and responsible decision-making
🔹 HIV Awareness and Teenage Pregnancy Prevention – promoting informed and responsible choices among adolescents

A special highlight of the activity was the sharing of a former Child in Conflict with the Law (CICL), who courageously shared his personal experience and encouraged students to avoid negative peer influences, make responsible choices, and learn from the consequences of wrong decisions.

The advocacy also emphasized personal safety and vigilance when using public transportation, including tricycles and bao-bao, encouraging students to immediately seek help and report situations that may place them at risk.

💙 Knowledge is protection. Awareness is prevention. Empowerment is our advocacy.

Together, let us continue creating a community where every child and young person is safe, heard, protected, and empowered to make positive choices.

Malampusong gipahigayon sa City Government of Mati, pinaagi sa City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), inubanan sa Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) – Mati City Police Station ug Reception Study and Diagnostic Center (RSDC), ang Psychosocial Support Activity for Women and Children Victim-Survivors niadtong September 17, 2026.

Ang kalihokan giapilan sa mga kababaihan ug kabatan-onan nga victim-survivors ubos sa Republic Act No. 9262 o Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004, ug Republic Act No. 7610 o Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act. Pinaagi sa lain-laing aktibidades matag grupo, nahatagan ang mga partisipante og higayon nga malingaw, makighalubilo sa uban, mailhan ang ilang kaugalingong kusog ug abilidad, ug mabati nga wala sila nag-inusara ug adunay mga tawo nga andam mosuporta kanila.

Isip dugang nga suporta, ang matag partisipante nakauli og 10 kilos nga bugas gikan sa People’s Administration. Naghatag usab si Congressman Cheeno Almario og non-food assistance sa matag partisipante, samtang si Vice Governor Glenda Rabat-Gayta naghatag usab og 25 kilos nga bugas.
Ang maong kalihokan nagpahinumdom nga ang matag usa adunay kaugalingong panahon ug paagi sa pagbangon gikan sa lisod nga mga kasinatian, adunay kaugalingong tingog ug pagpili, ug adunay suporta alang sa ilang padayon nga kaayohan.

Daghang salamat sa mga partisipante, facilitators, partner agencies, ug sa tanan nga naghatag og suporta nga nahimong kabahin sa kalampusan sa maong kalihokan.

𝐀 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐚 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 | 𝐂𝐈𝐂𝐋 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

Today marks an important milestone as a Child in Conflict with the Law (CICL) returns to his community after approximately one and a half years of rehabilitation at a DSWD Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY).

His reintegration into the community forms part of the continuing implementation of Republic Act No. 9344, or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, as amended by RA 10630, which emphasizes rehabilitation, restorative justice, and the child's eventual reintegration into the family and community.

His period of stay at the RRCY served as the intervention and rehabilitative measure in response to the alleged offense committed. More than accountability, the process recognizes that children in conflict with the law remain children—with the capacity to learn, change, and rebuild their lives.

Reintegration does not mean the end of the journey. It marks the beginning of another important phase: returning to family, reconnecting with the community, continuing education or productive activities, and being guided toward responsible and meaningful participation in society.

As social workers and community partners, our role is to help ensure that every child is given the opportunity to move forward—not defined solely by a mistake, but supported toward rehabilitation, accountability, and a better future.

Welcome home. May this new chapter be a step toward growth, responsibility, and a meaningful second chance. 🤝💙
