AFP Reinforces Leadership Stability with Confirmation of 38 Senior Officers

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) further strengthened leadership stability and joint force readiness following the Commission on Appointments’ confirmation of the ad interim appointments of 38 senior officers on August 13 in Pasay City.

Led by AFP Chief of Staff General Antonio G. Nafarrete PA, the confirmed officers included senior leaders from the AFP’s major services. The group comprised 19 officers from the Philippine Army, seven from the Philippine Air Force, nine from the Philippine Navy, and three from the Philippine Marine Corps.

The newly confirmed officers are expected to play key roles in advancing joint operations, strengthening professional military development, and supporting the AFP’s mandate to safeguard national security and protect the Filipino people.

103rd Infantry Brigade Welcomes 1st Scout Ranger Battalion to Bolster Security for the 2026 BARMM Parliamentary Election.

KAMPO RANAO, Marawi City – The 103rd Infantry (HARIBON) Brigade formally welcomed the 1st Scout Ranger (Unbeatable) Battalion at Headquarters, 103rd Infantry Brigade, Kampo Ranao, Marawi City, on 04 August 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen security preparations for the first BARMM Parliamentary Election on 14 September 2026.

During the ceremony, Brigadier General Montoya expressed confidence in the 1st Scout Ranger Battalion's professionalism and operational excellence, having worked with the unit during the campaign against the now-defeated Abu Sayyaf Group in Sulu Province. He further emphasized that the 1st Scout Ranger Battalion's arrival strengthens the Brigade's operational capability and demonstrates the Armed Forces of the Philippines' unwavering commitment to ensuring a secure, peaceful, and credible BARMM Parliamentary Election. He likewise underscored the importance of unity and mission focus in protecting communities and safeguarding every citizen's right to vote freely and without fear.

103rd Infantry (Haribon) Brigade Joins Nationwide Simultaneous Flag-Raising in Commemoration of the 2026 International Humanitarian Law Month; Honors Newly Promoted Personnel

KAMPO RANAO, Marawi City – The 103rd Infantry (Haribon) Brigade, under the leadership of Brigadier General Jessie R. Montoya, together with its OPCON and tenant units, joined the nationwide simultaneous flag-raising ceremony in commemoration of the 2026 International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Month Celebration. The activity reaffirmed the Philippine Army’s unwavering commitment to upholding International Humanitarian Law, human rights, and the rule of law.

The ceremony also recognized the achievements of newly promoted personnel through a Donning of Rank Ceremony held on 03 August 2026 (Monday) at H103Bde, Kampo Ranao, Marawi City, Lanao del Sur.

The ceremony likewise featured the AFP Soldier’s Pledge of Reaffirmation of Commitment and Support for International Humanitarian Law, led by Major Candidato S. Paduman, IHL Officer. Through the pledge, officers and enlisted personnel reaffirmed their commitment to uphold the principles of International Humanitarian Law, protect human rights, respect the rule of law, and faithfully perform their duties with integrity, professionalism, and compassion.

During the ceremony, BGen Montoya led the reading of the messages of the Commanding General, Philippine Army (CGPA), and the Chief of Staff, Armed Forces of the Philippines (CSAFP).

In the CGPA’s message, Lieutenant General Donald M. Gumiran emphasized this year’s theme, “Pinalakas na Ugnayan at Pagkakaisa sa Pagsulong ng IHL,” which underscores the importance of strengthened collaboration among government institutions, security forces, and humanitarian organizations in promoting and implementing International Humanitarian Law. He stressed that safeguarding humanitarian principles is a shared responsibility that requires unity of purpose and collective action.

Meanwhile, in the CSAFP’s message, General Antonio G. Nafarrete emphasized that the occasion serves as a testament to the Armed Forces’ enduring commitment to excellence and humanity. He highlighted the Philippines’ longstanding role as a steadfast advocate of peacekeeping in the Asia-Pacific region, stressing that promoting peace and protecting human dignity are shared responsibilities. He further reminded all personnel that those in uniform bear the highest duty to protect human rights, respect International Humanitarian Law, and uphold the international rule of law.

In his message, BGen Montoya congratulated the newly promoted personnel, reminding them that every promotion carries greater responsibility, leadership, and accountability in serving the Filipino people. He also encouraged all personnel to continue embodying the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, and respect for human rights in the performance of their duties.

The simultaneous observance of the 2026 International Humanitarian Law Month Celebration reflects the Philippine Army’s enduring commitment to promoting a culture of respect for human rights and humanitarian principles while strengthening public trust through disciplined, professional, and people-centered military service.

AFP, US, Japan conclude 17th Multilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), together with the United States Pacific Command (USPACOM) and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), successfully conducted the 17th Multilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity (MMCA) in the West Philippine Sea from July 21 to 25, 2026.

Participating Philippine assets included the BRP Antonio Luna (FFG15), Philippine Navy AW109 helicopter, Philippine Air Force FA-50 fighter aircraft, TC90, an A-29B Super Tucano, a C-208B aircraft, and a Sokol Search and Rescue (SAR) helicopter. The Philippine Coast Guard also deployed BRP Melchora Aquino (MRRV-9702) and BRP Malabrigo (MRRV-4002) in support of the activity. The USPACOM deployed the USS Santa Barbara (LCS-32) with MH60S and P-8A. Meanwhile, JMSDF participated with the JS Yuudachi (DD-103).

Throughout the five-day activity, participating forces carried out a series of advanced maritime interoperability exercises, including Communication Exercises (COMMEX), Replenishment at Sea (RAS), Division Tactics (DIVTACS), Officer of the Watch (OOW) Maneuvers, Rotary Wing Deck Landing Qualifications (DLQ), Photo Exercise (PHOTEX), Vertical Replenishment/Cross-Deck Landing, and Fly-by operations.

The conduct of the 17th MMCA for 2026 underscores the enduring partnership among the partner nations in promoting peace, stability, and security in the Indo-Pacific region. It likewise reflects the AFP's continuing commitment in ensuring freedom of navigation and overflight while deterring illegal, coercive, aggressive, and deceptive activities in the West Philippine Sea.

AFP Chief Visits Wounded Navy Personnel, Confers Wounded Personnel Medal

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Antonio G. Nafarrete PA visited two injured Philippine Navy personnel at Camp Ricarte Station Hospital on July 25, 2026, and conferred the Wounded Personnel Medal in recognition of their bravery and sacrifice in the line of duty.

The two personnel were wounded while serving as security personnel of BRP Sierra Madre (LS-57) during territorial defense operations near Ayungin Shoal, West Philippine Sea, on July 20, 2026.

General Nafarrete checked on their condition, expressed the AFP’s gratitude, and assured them of full support for their recovery and welfare. He said their actions reflect the highest standards of military professionalism, patriotism, and selfless service.

The visit highlights the AFP’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their resolve to uphold the country’s sovereignty, sovereign rights, and territorial integrity through professionalism and restraint.
