โMARAWI CITY โ In a decisive move to address learning gaps and champion evidence-based education, the Schools Division Office of Lanao del Sur-I led by โ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ข๐ฆ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ฌ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ง๐๐ซ, ๐๐ก๐ conducted an intensive four-day training on facilitating Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL): Improving Numeracy and Literacy Skills through Evidence-Based Targeted Learning Instructions last May 18-21, 2026.
โThe initiative marks a critical expansion of the program, building upon the successes of the first batch of pilot schools by integrating a robust, strengthened literacy component to ensure no learner in the SDO lanao del Sur-I is left behind.
โ
โThe TaRL approach discards traditional age-grade assumptions. Instead, it focuses on assessing learners' current actual levels and grouping them by ability rather than age, delivering targeted instructions to master foundational reading and basic mathematics.
โThe extensive training was made possible through a dynamic collaboration with Youth Impact and TISA (Testing Innovations for Sustained Action), at the forefront of implementing scalable, evidence-based remedial learning modules.
โThe four-day sessions were expertly guided by a dedicated training team from Youth Impact, led by
โJulius Irasga, Senior Training Officer, โJess Marlowe Libre, Training Associate, and Saiven M. Romuros, Divisional Officer.
โWorking hand-in-hand with the facilitators were the Division TaRL Mentors, who provided technical mentoring to ensure the strategies seamlessly align with the unique needs of the division's schools. In active attendance and supervising the roll-out were Jamira P. Sarip, MAEd, Curriculum and Instruction Division Chief, โShalma A. Manding, EdD, Division Mathematics Supervisor and TarL Focal Person, โAminah D. Solaiman, PhD, JD, PESS Supervisor, โMujahidah Pangandaman, MAEd, Education Program Supervisor, and Yasren Abdullah, Alternate Division Information Officer.
โThe workshop was highly immersive, veering away from passive lectures. Participantsโcomposed of school heads and key teachersโengaged in hands-on baseline assessment simulations, interactive teaching-learning demonstrations, and collaborative action planning. Teachers stepped into the shoes of learners, practicing play-based, high-energy activities designed to make numeracy and reading intuitive, engaging, and stress-free for children.
โ
โThe successful expansion of the TaRL pilot implementation is a manifestation to visionary, unified leadership at the division level.
โThe entire division management, trainers, and participants expressed their deepest gratitude to Schools Division Superintendent Bae Rubina Mimbantas Macabunar, PhD, alongside Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Tasnimah N. Mampao-Mamainte. PhD for their unwavering, full-scale support of the program.
โAs the newly trained facilitators return to their respective schools, SDO Lanao del Sur-I stands poised to transform classrooms into hubs of targeted mentoringโproving that when instructions meet learners exactly where they are, rapid and meaningful progress is inevitable.
