𝗖𝗔𝗠𝗣𝗔𝗜𝗚𝗡 𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗧 | 𝗔𝘀 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀

We stand with the students and activists of Central Mindanao University in condemning all forms of red-tagging, intimidation, and surveillance that have been directed against peaceful student mobilizations.

We stood for CMU in 2023 during the land-grabbing issues that challenged the university’s integrity and relationship with its communities. Now, the same must be true in principle: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝗱-𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲. The “Academic Paradise of the South” is not what it is today without the students who have shaped, defended, and sustained it throughout years.

Universities must remain spaces for critical thought—not avenues of fear and surveillance. The normalization of intimidation against student-led civic engagement undermines academic freedom and contradicts the very values higher education is meant to protect.

We are 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗠𝗨 𝗔𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. The eerie silence of the administration on these serious matters poses an implicit perpetuation of further attacks against its students and campus democracy.

Dissent is not a crime. The youth will not be silenced.

The undersigned organizations strongly condemn the continuing incidents of red-tagging, intimidation, and police presence directed against student leaders and students participating in peaceful mobilizations inside Central Mindanao University. The right to organize, mobilize, criticize government actions and collectively call for accountability are democratic rights guaranteed to every Filipino citizen. Students who speak on issues affecting the people are not threats to society. They are citizens who recognize their responsibility to stand for the public interest and defend the principles of democracy.

To label student leaders and activists as enemies merely for expressing dissent creates a dangerous culture of fear and repression within academic institutions. Universities must remain spaces for critical thinking, political discourse, and democratic participation—not grounds for intimidation and surveillance. These acts of red-tagging, intimidation, and surveillance constitute a direct assault on academic freedom and the fundamental freedom of expression within the university.

We call on the CMU Administration to take a clear and principled stand in protecting and defending the rights and welfare of its students. Silence in the face of intimidation only emboldens further attacks against student rights and campus democracy. The university must ensure that students are able to organize, mobilize, express dissent, and engage in political discourse without fear of profiling, harassment, or state surveillance.

We likewise call on university officials, faculty members, alumni, and the wider CMU community to vehemently reject the culture of red-tagging and stand in defense of students’ democratic rights.

May the university stand with its students the way the we did for CMU last 2023.

Dissent is not a crime. The youth will not be silenced.
For the line of fire is always a place of honor.

And just like that, CMU LEADS 2025 came to a close.

After three days of debates, sleepless preparations, muddy activities, and shared experiences, the final night was spent celebrating every tribu, every delegate, and every memory created throughout the congress. The Awarding Ceremony and Fellowship Jam became more than a closing program but it served as a moment of realization that CMU LEADS 2025 had already become part of our journey, beyond leadership.

From the plenary to the mud, the morning component of the third day of CMU LEADS was spent on physical and contact activities across selected areas of the University Grounds. During this segment, most student leaders developed severe trust issues, and even clothes were ripped as their tribu flags were placed at stake.😭

Despite the mud, chaos, and intense competition, the activities became one of the most memorable parts of the congress as camaraderie and teamwork were put to the test.

𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗢𝗪𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞 𝗦𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗬 | Me lang ba ang nakaka-miss ng CMU LEADS 2025?🥹

It’s been 7 months since 𝗖𝗠𝗨 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗦 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀’ 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀, but the memories, lessons, and connections from that unforgettable 3-day event still linger in our hearts. And now, after the Utilization Conference held last May 13, 2026, the winning proposals are finally set to be implemented in the next academic year. This just goes to show that the efforts and proposals of our beloved students student leaders do not end in the congress but continue through action and institutional impact.
