Following an early morning fire that damaged parts of its office yesterday, September 2, the Office of the Vice Mayor (OVM) ensures its frontline services remain accessible to the public.
The fire broke out around 5:00 a.m. yesterday and was quickly contained by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). According to the BFP, an old electrical socket sparked a plugged-in refrigerator in the pantry, burning a section of the room and causing parts of the ceiling to collapse. There were no casualties or injuries reported during the incident.
In a media interview, Vice Mayor Chi Atienza assured Manileรฑos that the local government is working diligently to ensure there are no gaps in delivering essential services.
โKahit na nangyari โto, rest assured, magtutuloy-tuloy yung operation, and at the same time sa office ko, ilalaban ko โto. Kung ibig sabihin nun uupo ako dito sa labas ng opisina ko para kausapin โyung mga tao, gagawin natin,โ the vice mayor stated.
โMahirap man, as I always say โno, โpag may mga nasusunugan tayo na mga kababayan, kahit may nangyari hindi maganda, I see challenges as means to persevere,โ she added.
She also clarified that the incident was purely accidental and involved no negligence on the part of her staff. โThe first thing I did was to check if may learning, may kailangan matutunan. But then again, when I saw, wala kaming nagawang mali. Talagang โyung nakasaksak lang na refrigerator nag-spark, that sparked this whole ordeal.โ
โAccidents happen, but donโt worry, dahil ilalaban po natin na walang magambalang operasyon,โ she added.
While the staff conducts clearing operations and awaits full safety clearance from the BFP to utilize the inner office, immediate contingency measures have been deployed. Starting today, the OVMโs medical assistance program has officially resumed.
Constituents can expect temporary service desks set up directly in front of the office โ ensuring that every Manileรฑo reaching out for help is accommodated without delay.
However, the free legal assistance program is temporarily suspended, as the staff are currently occupying the space to keep administrative operations running while the main area is being restored.
The Office of the Vice Mayor understands that the medical needs of Manileรฑos do not pause for an office emergency. Through these temporary setups, the administration of Mayor Isko Moreno and Vice Mayor Chi Atienza reassures the public that despite the setback, the office is doing everything it can to keep its assistance accessible.
