BPI-NSQCS CONDUCTS INFORMATION CARAVAN ON PLANT NURSERY ACCREDITATION

The Department of Agriculture–Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI), through the BPI-Crop Research and Production Support Division (BPI-CRPSD), in collaboration with the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), DA-Regional Field Offices (DA-RFOs), and the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), successfully conducted the Basic Training Course on In**ed Rice Seed Production and Certification on August 10–14, 2026, in Tagbilaran City, Bohol. The five-day training was attended by 33 seed growers from Regions III, V, and VIII, as well as the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). The activity aimed to enhance their competencies in the production, handling, certification, testing, and quality management of in**ed rice seeds.

The training covered essential topics on cultural management practices, varietal identity and genetic purity, field inspection and roguing, seed warehouse management and storage, seed certification, and seed testing procedures. Participants also took part in hands-on laboratory and field activities, including seed processing and testing, roguing, and identifying plant diseases, weeds, and insect pests.

PhilRice also introduced the Rice Seed Information System (RSIS) and demonstrated the GrowApp, highlighting the importance of digital tools in supporting rice seed production and monitoring.

Through this combination of technical discussions, laboratory activities, and hands-on field exercises, the training strengthened the capacities of seed growers and supported the Department of Agriculture's continuing efforts to promote the production and distribution of high-quality in**ed rice seeds toward increased rice productivity and strengthened food security.
