On October 16, 2026, the Climate Change Commission (CCC) continued to advance climate action through engagements with local government leaders and the youth in Oriental Mindoro.

The Commission paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Ronaldo M. Moranda at the Bansud Provincial Hall in Bansud, Oriental Mindoro, followed by a courtesy visit to Hon. Jerwin S. Dimapilis, Municipal Mayor of Roxas, at the Municipality of Roxas, Oriental Mindoro. These engagements underscored the importance of collaboration between national and local governments in strengthening climate resilience and advancing sustainable development.

The CCC also conducted a Student Forum at John Paul College, located in Odiong, Roxas, Oriental Mindoro, engaging students in discussions on climate change, environmental responsibility, and the importance of youth participation in climate solutions.

Through these initiatives, the Commission reinforces its commitment to building climate-resilient communities by fostering partnerships with local leaders and empowering young Filipinos to become active advocates for climate action.

Climate action begins with collaboration, grows through education, and succeeds when communities work together.

“FUND RESILIENCE, NOT DISASTER.”

Disasters may be inevitable, but their devastating impacts can be reduced through preparedness, prevention, and collective climate action.

As we observe the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, we emphasize the importance of investing in climate-resilient communities rather than merely responding to disasters after they strike.

In the Philippines, 𝙍𝙚𝙥𝙪𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙘 𝘼𝙘𝙩 𝙉𝙤. 𝟏𝟎𝟏𝟐𝟏, or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010, promotes a proactive approach to disaster risk reduction through preparedness, prevention, mitigation, and rehabilitation.

Likewise, 𝙍𝙚𝙥𝙪𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙘 𝘼𝙘𝙩 𝙉𝙤. 𝟗𝟕𝟐𝟗, or the Climate Change Act of 2009, strengthens the integration of climate change adaptation into government policies and development planning.

These laws remind us that disaster risk reduction and climate action must go hand in hand. As climate change intensifies extreme weather events and other climate-related hazards, investing in early warning systems, resilient infrastructure, ecosystem protection, and community-based adaptation becomes more urgent than ever.

Every peso invested in resilience is an investment in lives, livelihoods, and the future of every Filipino.

Let us move from reaction to prevention, from vulnerability to resilience, and from commitment to meaningful climate action.
