GUIDING PRINCIPLES
Buklod is founded on pr
inciples and ideologies emulating the UP College of Nursing’s core values: Integrity, Nationalism, Caring, Excellence, Love for learning, and Leadership. Buklod focuses on sound moral principles, critical perspective on the pressing issues; and on the pursuit of the common good, not the demands of special interests. Buklod is guided by the following principles:
A. Consistent Commitment – The organization is committed to fulfilling the vision and mission of the organization, putting the interest of others, especially the vulnerable and weak, above its own interests. As an organization, we believe that our consistent commitment to our ideals, principles and advocacies is essential to the brand of leadership that we would like to develop in each member. B. Student Empowerment and Involvement - Buklod believes that it can empower student nurses by helping them develop leadership skills and involving them in the advocacies that they believe in. As an organization of leaders and advocates, we believe that in empowering student-nurses, we are also empowering the Filipino nation. C. Multi-perspective Activism - As an organization that pushes for the development of leadership and advocacy, we believe that awareness, unbiased and critical judgment, and appropriate collective action towards the pressing issues of our time are essential for the holistic formation of every student nurse. D. Academic Excellence - Buklod puts the word “student” before the word “leader”. This reminds us of our responsibility, as Iskolars ng Bayan, to attain a balance between organization involvement and academic excellence. E. Relevant Service and Leadership - The organization believes that UP students take the lead in providing leadership in igniting the genuine passion to serve the Filipino individual, family, and community who are the reasons why we exist, insist, and persist. As an organization that aims to develop the leader in every student nurse, we believe that relevant service is only possible with good leadership skills as foundation. F. Transparency and Accountability - As student leaders, we are held accountable for our actions and decisions because they affect, directly and indirectly, the welfare of our primary constituents, the Nursing Student Body. Buklod upholds transparency and accountability, and strives for lasting good governance in the pursuit of the common good and not of special interest.
