π‹πŽπŽπŠ: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) conducted the Joint Change of Command Ceremony of Coast Guard District Palawan (CGDPAL) and Coast Guard District Kalayaan Island Group (CGDKIG) at the Headquarters Coast Guard District Palawan, Puerto Princesa City on June 1, 2026.

The ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Commandant for Operations, Vice Admiral Edgar YbaΓ±ez PCG and was attended by Coast Guard personnel, stakeholders, and partner agencies.

During the ceremony, Rear Admiral Weniel Azcuna PCG formally relinquished his duties as Commander of CGDPAL and CGDKIG, concluding a tenure marked by dedicated leadership and service, and strengthened maritime operations.

Meanwhile, Commodore Jane Gesulgon PCG officially assumed command of CGDPAL and CGDKIG, ushering in a new chapter of leadership, dedicated to sustaining operational excellence, strengthening maritime governance, and advancing PCG’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s maritime interest.

The Change of Command Ceremony underscored the PCG’s enduring tradition of professionalism, seamless leadership transition, and steadfast commitment to public service in support of the Bagong Pilipinas vision.

𝐈𝐍 ππ‡πŽπ“πŽπ’: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) held an awarding ceremony in honor of United States Coast Guard (USCG) Captain Jason Lehto at the National Headquarters in Manila on May 29, 2026.

PCG Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan, led the ceremony and conferred the Coast Guard Outstanding Achievement Medal and Ribbon to Captain Lehto in recognition of his significant contributions to enhancing the PCG’s operational capabilities, institutional development, and personnel expertise, during his tenure as the USCG AttachΓ© to the Philippines from July 2024 to June 2026.

Captain Lehto shared that, while his departure is bittersweet, he will always carry the PCG family in his heart and looks forward to sustaining the strong bond between the two coast guards across the seas.

He also acknowledged the leadership and dedication of Admiral Gavan as instrumental to their collective accomplishments and conveyed his sincere appreciation for the opportunity to contribute to the PCG’s continued developments.

π‹πŽπŽπŠ: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) organized a three-day Swimming Clinic for children in Siquijor from May 26 to 28, 2026.

The activity gathered children in Siquijor from aged six to 12 years old, providing them with an opportunity to learn basic water safety and proper swimming techniques in a safe and supervised environment.

The swimming clinic aimed to equip the young participants with essential swimming skills, including proper swimming strokes, water confidence, and basic survival techniques. Through the guidance and supervision of Coast Guard personnel, the children actively participated in various practical exercises designed to promote discipline, teamwork, and awareness on water safety, especially important in maritime communities.

At the closing program, certificates were awarded to all participating children in recognition of their active participation and newly acquired skills. PCG remains committed to promoting water safety awareness and community development through meaningful youth-centered activities.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), together with partner agencies, recovered four bodies from Sectors 1 and 2 of the collapsed building site in Angeles City while continuing search and rescue (SAR) operations today, May 31, 2026.

The recovery followed positive indications provided by Coast Guard K9 Working Dogs (CGWDs) UXO, Travis, and Summit during thorough search and marking operations in the affected sectors.

All participating agencies continue to work closely together to ensure the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of ongoing rescue and retrieval operations.

Guided by the PCG’s Intensified Community, Assistance, Awareness, Response, and Enforcement (iCARE) initiative, Coast Guard personnel remain committed in supporting rescue efforts and working tirelessly to account for all individuals involved in the incident.

𝐈𝐍 ππ‡πŽπ“πŽπ’: The Philippine Military Academy (PMA) rendered a Testimonial Parade and Review in honor of the Commander, Coast Guard Civil Relations Service, Rear Admiral Teotimo Borja Jr PCG, at Fort del Pilar, Baguio City on May 30, 2026.

Rear Admiral Borja Jr PCG is a proud member of the PMA Tanglaw-Diwa Class of 1992, where embarked on a lifelong commitment to public service and excellence.

Hailing from the historic land of Tanauan, Leyte, he was shaped by the enduring values of discipline, honor, and service. Demonstrating academic excellence and leadership potential, he graduated 20th in his class before being commissioned into the naval service.

His extensive career began onboard PCG vessels from 1993 to 1997, where he served with dedication and professionalism.

As a distinguished officer of the PCG, he built a remarkable career across the archipelago, commanding key stations and intelligence offices in Palawan, Davao, Zamboanga, Ozamis, and Tacloban.

Commitment to continuous professional development, Rear Admiral Borja Jr pursued advanced studies in Sweden, where he earned his Master’s Degree that further strengthened his expertise in maritime safety and strategic planning.

His international footprint expanded through his service as the Philippine representative to the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) in Singapore.

Upon his return to the Philippines, he played a pivotal role in the PCG’s modernization efforts through the Project Management Office, overseeing the acquisition of vessels that now serve as key assets of PCG fleet.

Through his visionary stewardship in civil-maritime operations and community relations, Rear Admiral Borja Jr has fostered stronger partnerships between the PCG and maritime stakeholders, advancing public trust and collaboration.

A highly decorated officer, he has received numerous awards and recognitions, including the Taiwan Medal of Honor, the Coast Guard Distinguished Service Medal, Outstanding Achievement Medal, and the Bronze Cross Medal.

Beyond his professional achievements, Rear Admiral Borja Jr draws inspiration from his family. He is a devoted husband to Jasmin Udtuhan, and a proud father to Loi Janelle and Lieutenant Junior Grade Timothy Laurence PCG.

As he stood before the Cadet Corps on the hallowed grounds of Fort Del Pilar, the ceremony paid tribute to his 37 years of dedicated public service, steadfast integrity, and significant contributions to the continuing transformation and modernization of the PCG.
