The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), in partnership with the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) and the United States Coast Guard (USCG), strengthened its maritime search and rescue capability through the successful conduct of the Small Boat Operations–Search and Rescue (SBO-SAR) Course held from July 20 to 31, 2026 at the Coast Guard Fleet Headquarters and aboard BRP Batangas (SARV-5605) in Manila.

Aligned with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to enhance the PCG’s operational capability, the two-week training equipped Coast Guard personnel with essential competencies in small boat operations, search and rescue patterns, towing procedures, and other mission-essential maritime response skills

Conducted through the support of the INL and USCG Southeast Asia Training Team (SEATT), the training concluded with eight (8) PCG personnel successfully completing the program, contributing to the organization’s preparedness for maritime emergencies.

The initiative advances the PCG’s Intensified Community Assistance, Awareness, Response, and Enforcement (iCARE) program and Organized National Engagement (ONE) at Sea concept through sustained international cooperation, reinforcing maritime search and rescue readiness in support of the Bagong Pilipinas vision.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), through Task Force Aduana, assisted the Bureau of Customs PH in a successful joint warehouse inspection that uncovered an estimated β‚±700 million worth of suspected counterfeit shoes and slippers in Imus, Cavite, on August 3, 2026.

PCG personnel provided security and operational assistance during the implementation of a Letter of Authority and Mission Order issued pursuant to Section 224 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

The team found assorted footwear bearing the names and marks of several local and international brands. The warehouse was initially sealed, while its owner was given 15 days to submit documents showing the lawful importation of the goods and payment of the appropriate customs duties and taxes.

The operation was conducted with the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Imus City Police, Maritime Police, and barangay representatives.

The PCG continues to strengthen its support for customs enforcement operations in support of President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr's Bagong Pilipinas vision, the PCG's Intensified Community Assistance, Awareness, Response, and Enforcement (iCARE) program, and the Organized National Engagement (ONE) at Sea strategic concept to prevent smuggling and protect legitimate trade.

The Revised Philippine Coast Guard Law (Senate Bill No. 2116) was successfully approved on second reading during the Senate's Second Regular Session at the Plenary Hall, Senate of the Philippines on August 4, 2026.

The measure was approved without objection, with all Senators, including members of the Minority, expressing their support and agreeing to become co-authors/co-sponsors of the bill. The overwhelming approval reflects the Senate's strong confidence in the proposed reforms to enhance the PCG's mandate, capability, and personnel welfare.

Following Senate rules, the bill will proceed to its 3rd and Final Reading after the mandatory three-day period, bringing the proposed Revised PCG Law one step closer to enactment.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) seized approximately 2,000 board feet of undocumented Lawaan lumber during a maritime law enforcement operation in Rio Hondo, Zamboanga City, on August 4, 2026.

The operation was launched after the PCG received intelligence information that a motorized banca carrying undocumented Lawaan lumber had departed Latuan, Basilan, and was bound for Rio Hondo.

At around 8:30PM, Coast Guard personnel monitored the arrival of the motorized banca and conducted an interdiction operation. Authorities apprehended the boat operator for profiling.

According to PCG Spokesperson, Commodore Noemie Cayabyab, the transport of undocumented forest products violates Philippine forestry laws, which require timber to be accompanied by valid transport documents and permits issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

β€œThese requirements ensure that forest products come from legal sources and prevent illegal logging and the unlawful trade of timber,” Commodore Cayabyab said.

The apprehended boat operator and seized lumber were transported to Coast Guard Station Zamboanga at around 11:15PM for inventory and further investigation.

Meanwhile, the motorized banca was left at its docking area for safety considerations after Coast Guard personnel found a hole in its hull.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), in partnership with the Japan Coast Guard–Mobile Cooperation Team (JCG-MCT), conducted a two-week Practical Training Program from 20 to 31 July 2026 at the Coast Guard Fleet Headquarters and aboard PCG vessels to strengthen shipboard operational capabilities.

Aligned with the President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. directive to enhance the country’s maritime capability through international cooperation, the training equipped PCG personnel with practical skills in towing operations, damage control, shipboard firefighting, oil spill prevention, and operational analysis.

The series of training enhanced the PCG’s operational readiness by strengthening the practical competencies of its personnel in shipboard operations and emergency response, adopt best practices, and strengthen interoperability with the Japan Coast Guard.

This capacity-building initiative supports the PCG’s Intensified Community Assistance, Awareness, Response, and Enforcement (iCARE) program and reinforce the Organized National Engagement (ONE) at Sea strategic concept by advancing interoperability and international cooperation to promote a safer, more secure, and resilient maritime domain.

PCG Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil L Gavan PCG underscored the continued advancement of bilateral relationship, emphasizing the operationalization of established mechanism such as the Mutual Defense Board and Security Engagement Board (MDBSEB) and the Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue (AMSAR) Agreement. These mechanisms continue to strengthen joint protocols, real-time information sharing, and maritime law enforcement cooperation.

The discussion also recognized the PCG’s successful participation in multilateral exercises, including the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2026, reflecting the organization’s growing interoperability with allied maritime forces, as well as its expanding role in promoting regional maritime stability.

Both sides likewise discussed initiatives on advancing Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA), through communication and fleet modernization, and workforce development to sustain operational readiness and professional growth.
