This September 2026, the Greater Manila Emergency Response Network (GMERN) encourages everyone to pause, listen, and recognize that not every urgent matter declares itself.

With heavy hearts, the Greater Manila Emergency Response Network mourns the passing of Jaja, a former member of the Sampaloc Emergency Response Team.

We remember not only a colleague or a responder, but also a person who once stood with us in service to the community as a member of Sampaloc ERT.

For now, we choose to remember the life he lived, the service he gave, and the place he held among those who had the privilege of serving alongside him. GMERN is grateful for the time he spent serving with us.
To the family and loved ones left behind, we extend our deepest condolences. May you find strength and comfort in the memories you shared with him.

May his soul rest in peace.

The liver is a vital organ that carries out essential tasks such as detoxification, metabolism, blood clotting, and immune support. Although it has the remarkable ability to regenerate, continuous injury caused by unhealthy lifestyle choices and viral infections can lead to inflammation, scarring, and eventually permanent liver damage.

The observance every July 17th commemorates the enactment of the Republic Act No. 10871, officially titled 𝘉𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘤 𝘓𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘚𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭𝘴 𝘈𝘤𝘵, and widely known as the Samboy Lim Law. Inspired by the story of PBA Hall of Famer and Philippine Basketball Legend Samboy "The Skywalker" Lim Jr., the law recognizes the importance of equipping Filipinos—beginning with students—with lifesaving knowledge and skills, especially Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Every year, sudden cardiac arrest claims lives that might have been saved by prompt recognition, early CPR and defibrillation, and early access to emergency medical care. In the Philippines, survival from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest remains low, highlighting the importance of BLS. By promoting BLS education in basic education institutions, RA 10871 affirms that preparedness is not solely the responsibility of healthcare workers. It is a shared responsibility between community members.

As an organization dedicated to public safety and emergency preparedness, GMERN supports this vision by sharing our knowledge to schools, youth volunteers, and communities. Through awareness campaigns, trainings, and preparedness initiatives, we move closer to a nation where more Filipinos are prepared to respond when every second counts.

This National CPR Day, we invite you to learn about the story behind RA 10871, and the importance of BLS education.

Because every trained bystander is a potential lifesaver.
