TROPICAL DEPRESSION β€œVERBENA” SLIGHTLY INTENSIFIES AND IS NOW MOVING TOWARDS BOHOL.

Location of Center (10:00 PM):
The center of Tropical Depression VERBENA was estimated based on all available data including those from Mactan and Guiuan Doppler Weather Radars over the coastal waters of Anda, Bohol (9.6Β°N, 124.7Β°E).

Intensity:
Maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 75 km/h, and central pressure of 998 hPa

Present Movement:
West northwestward at 15 km/h

Extent of Tropical Cyclone Winds:
Strong winds extend outwards up to 200 km from the center

Heavy Rainfall Outlook

Severe Winds
The wind signals warn the public of the general wind threat over an area due to the tropical cyclone. Local winds may be slightly stronger/enhanced in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds. Winds are less strong in areas sheltered from the prevailing wind direction.

β€’ Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds are possible within any of the areas under Wind Signal No. 1.

Furthermore, the surge of Northeast Monsoon and VERBENA will also bring gusty conditions reaching strong to gale-force strength over the following areas not under Wind Signal (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds):

β€’ Today: Luzon, Visayas, Surigao del Sur, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte, Davao Oriental, and Zamboanga del Norte
β€’ Tomorrow (25 November): Luzon, Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Zamboanga del Norte
β€’ Wednesday (26 November): Luzon, Western Visayas, Northern Samar, and Dinagat Islands.

HAZARDS AFFECTING COASTAL WATERS
A Gale Warning is in effect over the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon. For more details, refer to Gale Warning No. 5A issued at 11:00 PM today.

24-Hour Sea Condition Outlook

Up to very rough seas over the following coastal waters:
β€’ Up to 4.5 m: The seaboards of Batanes, Cagayan, and Ilocos Region
β€’ Sea travel is risky for all types or tonnage of vessels. All mariners must remain in port or, if underway, seek shelter or safe harbor as soon as possible until winds and waves subside.

Up to rough seas over the following coastal waters:
β€’ Up to 4.0 m: The seaboards of Isabela, Aurora, northern mainland Quezon, Camarines Norte, and Kalayaan Islands; the northern seaboard of Camarines Sur; the eastern seaboards of Albay, Sorsogon, Eastern Samar, and Dinagat Islands; the northern and eastern seaboards of Polillo Islands, Catanduanes, Northern Samar, and Siargao-Bucas Grande Islands.
β€’ Up to 3.5 m: The seaboards of Zambales, Antique, and the northern Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo Islands; the southern seaboards of Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro.
β€’ Up to 3.0 m: The seaboards of Lubang Island and Surigao del Sur; the eastern seaboards of the rest of Quezon, Camarines Sur, and Davao Oriental; the western seaboard of Occidental Mindoro; the remaining seaboard of Catanduanes.
β€’ Mariners of small seacrafts, including all types of motorbancas, are advised not to venture out to sea under these conditions, especially if inexperienced of operating ill-equipped vessels.

Up to moderate to rough seas over the following coastal waters:
β€’ Up to 2.5 m: The seaboards of Romblon, Marinduque, Negros Occidental, Bantayan Islands, Cagayancillo Islands, and Davao Occidental; the western seaboard of Bataan, Cavite, the rest of Palawan; the remaining seaboards of Quezon, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, and Siargao-Bucas Grande Islands.
β€’ Up to 2.0 m: The seaboards of Northern Mindanao and Zamboanga del Norte; the western seaboards of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi; the remaining seaboards of Batangas, MIMAROPA, Visayas, and Caraga Region.
β€’ Mariners of motorbancas and similarly sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation under these conditions.

TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK
β€’ It must be emphasized that heavy rainfall and severe winds may still be experienced in localities outside the landfall point and the forecast confidence cone. Refer to β€œOther Hazards affecting Land Areas” for more details. Furthermore, the track may still shift within the limit of the forecast confidence cone.
β€’ On the track forecast, VERBENA will move west northwestward across Visayas and the northern portion of Palawan between tonight and tomorrow (25 November) evening, before emerging over the West Philippine Sea on Wednesday (26 November) morning. It will then turn westward and pass north of Kalayaan Islands and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday (27 November).
β€’ VERBENA but will likely cross Visayas as a tropical depression. It may reach tropical storm category either before reaching northern Palawan or once over the West Philippine Sea. VERBENA may peak at severe tropical storm category while in the middle of the West Philippine north of Kalayaan Islands.

Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials. For heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm/rainfall advisories, and other severe weather information specific to your area, please monitor products issued by your local PAGASA Regional Services Division.
