In our steadfast commitment to excellence as we host the prestigious 48th ASEAN Leaders’ Summit and Related Meetings, Lapu-Lapu City is conducting vital preparations to ensure the safety and seamless movement of our international delegates.

To achieve this, the ASEAN National Organizing Committee (NOC) will conduct a series of Simulation Exercises (SIMEX) and convoy runs tomorrow, May 5, 2026. These drills are essential to fine-tuning our security protocols and traffic synchronization for a successful global hosting.

To ensure you remain informed and can plan your day effectively, please take note of the following details:

β€’ Simulation Schedule: Exercises are strictly scheduled for 8:00 AM, 3:00 PM, and 6:00 PM tomorrow Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

β€’ Primary Affected Areas: Temporary road
closures will be implemented from Maribago to Mactan Newtown and along Punta EngaΓ±o Road to Mactan Newtown.

β€’ Traffic Management: During these windows, expect temporary road lockdowns and intermittent stoppages of vehicular movement.

β€’ Alternative Routes: Motorists are encouraged to utilize designated diversion roads (indicated in blue on the advisory map) to avoid the ceremonial routes.

β€’ On-Ground Guidance: Our City Traffic Management System (CTMS) personnel will be deployed across all affected areas to actively guide motorists, manage flow, and provide assistance during the simulation periods.

β€’ Special Advisory for Travelers: In coordination with Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), please be aware of heightened security checks and ASEAN-related movements within the airport vicinity. Passengers are strongly urged to plan trips to and from the airport well ahead of time and allow extra travel time to account for potential traffic and security delays. We encourage everyone to leave early to avoid missing flights.

β€’ Local Workforce & Businesses: We specifically advise employees within the tourism belt and local business owners along the affected areas to leave for their destinations early and plan around the simulation schedule to minimize inconvenience.

We respectfully ask for everyone’s understanding and patience as we conduct these necessary exercises. Your full cooperation is a vital component in making the ASEAN Summit seamless, safe, and organized, showcasing the very best of Oponganon hospitality and discipline to the world.

CAAP ISSUES FLIGHT ADVISORY FOLLOWING MAYON VOLCANO ERUPTION

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) advises the flying public, airline operators, general aviation operators, and all concerned aviation stakeholders that airspace restrictions have been implemented for flight safety, following the reported eruption of Mayon Volcano at 03:43 AM on Sunday.

Based on NOTAM B1875/26 (replacing B1856/26), aircraft are not allowed to operate from the surface up to 11,000 feet within a 6-kilometer radius from the summit of Mayon Volcano.

This precautionary measure is being enforced due to the potential hazards posed by volcanic ash, airborne particles, and sudden volcanic activity, which may affect aircraft engines, navigation systems, and overall flight safety.

All airline operators, pilots, dispatchers, and aviation stakeholders are advised to closely coordinate with Air Traffic Services and monitor official updates before operating in affected areas.

The CAAP continues to closely monitor the situation in coordination with relevant government agencies to ensure the safety and security of air navigation.
