ARE WE READY FOR THE SILVER POPULATION?
On May 26, the Commission on Population and Development (CPD) gathered national government agencies, older personsβ organizations, local government units, and research and data experts to obtain insights on current trends, challenges, policy and program interventions, and recommendations on the Voluntary National Survey of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA).
The principles of life course, health and well-being, and enabling environments, established in Madrid over twenty years ago, are not just international ideals, but a part of our current and immediate national blueprint for older persons. MIPAA is the global guiding document on population ageing, adopted at the Second World Assembly on Ageing, in 2002 in Madrid, Spain. Our Philippine Population and Development Plan of Action (PPD-POA) 2023-2028 directly echoes these priority directions.
CPD believes that every individual and every community should be included and no one should be left behind, particularly our older persons. The ageing demographic shift presents a unique opportunity to achieve silver dividend. As Filipinos live longer and healthier lives, they can continue to contribute to the economy, creating new opportunities for progress.
