🚀 From Craftsmanship to Competitiveness: Technology Adoption Pathways for Marikina Leathersmiths

The MPC ReSOLES TBI, in partnership with DOST-National Capital Region PAMAMARISAN Cluster and DOST-MIRDC, brings together Marikina's leathercraft and footwear MSMEs for a learning session on practical technology adoption and innovation.

Through the CUATRO Program, participants will explore Industry 4.0 technologies and smart production solutions that can enhance productivity, competitiveness, and business growth. The activity will also help identify MSME needs and opportunities for future technical assistance and capacity-building support.

As part of our continuing assistance to MSMEs under the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP), the DOST-NCR PAMAMARISAN Clustered Area Science and Technology Office (CASTO) is organizing a training titled “From Craftsmanship to Competitiveness: Technology Adoption Pathways for Marikina Leathersmiths” on 11 June 2026, Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the MPC ReSOLES TBI, 3rd Floor, New Admin Building, Marikina Polytechnic College.

Especially designed for leathersmiths, footwear makers, leather goods producers, and other entrepreneurs, this activity is a collaboration with DOST’s Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC) thru the Connected and Unified Autonomous Technologies with Automation and Robotics (CUATRO) Team, and the ReSOLES Technology Business Incubator,

No less than Balik Scientist Dr. Gabriel Avelino Sampedro will guide participants in discovering practical ways to upgrade production, enhance product quality, and boost business using science and technology without losing the heart of artisan craftsmanship. 💡👜

Additionally, participants will:

✨ Explore practical tools, systems, and process innovations that can be directly applied business,
✨ Gain insights on improving productivity, efficiency, and overall competitiveness in today’s evolving market,

Recognizing the academe’s vital role in driving innovation, the Department of Entrepreneurship of Rizal Technological University (RTU), in partnership with the Office of Councilor Charisse Abalos-Vargas and DTI Negosyo Center-NCR Mandaluyong, successfully conducted their entrepreneurship exposition titled “Galyong Bughaw 2026”, last May 13, 2026, at Greenfield Central Park, Mandaluyong City.

RTU’s 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐚𝐰 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐈𝐊𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐆 𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐀𝐆: 𝐕𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐀 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐄𝐫𝐚 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the innovation ecosystem in Mandaluyong City by empowering emerging entrepreneurs. As part of its support for youth-driven innovation, DOST-NCR participated in the final pitching session of RTU’s fourth-year entrepreneurship majors, where Engr. Rence Audry Merino of the PAMAMARISAN CASTO served as one of the panelists. The student groups presented a diverse range of food, non-food, and technology-based products that showcased innovative and market-oriented business concepts.

The activity provided aspiring entrepreneurs with valuable insights on intellectual property protection, sustainability, market relevance, and long-term business viability. Promising ventures may also be further supported through the PAMAMARISAN Innovation Hub (iHub) at Marikina Polytechnic College, which assists startups through business planning, market validation, prototyping, and other innovation support services.
