Today, December 8, the country commemorates the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary—the mother and principal patroness of the Philippines. The Our Lady of Immaculate Conception is the patron saint of the municipalities of Boac, Marinduque; Concepcion, Romblon; Calintaan, Occidental Mindoro; Culion, Palawan; and the city of Puerto Princesa.

Pursuant to Republic Act No. 10966, signed in 2017, December 8 of every year is declared as a special non-working holiday across the nation.
