Joint Efforts of 16IB and 31IB Score Major Engagement Against CTG in Camarines Sur

LABO, Camarines Norte — The joint forces of 16th Infantry (Maglilingkod) Battalion, 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division, Philippine Army, under the leadership of Lt. Col. Rene J. Giroy, and 31st Infantry (Charge) Battalion, 9th Infantry (Spear) Division under the leadership of Lt. Col. Cliff Chester L. De Ocampo, successfully conducted a joint operation that struck a major blow against remnants of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) in Barangay Salvacion, Ragay, Camarines Sur, earlier today, October 10, 2025.

Acting on timely and credible information provided by a concerned citizen, the joint operation engaged approximately seven (7) armed members of the Komiteng Larangang Gerilya 1, Sub-Regional Committee 1, Bicol Regional Party Committee (KLG1, SRC1, BRPC). The tipster, who had grown weary of the abuses and deceptions of the CTG in their community, bravely chose to cooperate with government forces—enabling the swift and precise ex*****on of the operation and helping avert further enemy atrocities against innocent civilians.

A brief but intense five-minute firefight ensued, forcing the enemy to scamper in different directions and abandon their fi****ms and personal belongings. No government casualties were reported during the encounter.

Recovered from the encounter site were:

• Three (3) M16A1 rifles
• Two (2) M653 rifles
• One (1) Improvised Explosive Device (IED)
• Four (4) bandoliers
• Fifteen (15) magazines for M16/M653 rifles
• 407 rounds of assorted small arms ammunition
• One (1) cellphone
• Six (6) backpacks containing enemy personal belongings

In a joint statement, Lt. Col. Giroy and Lt. Col. De Ocampo lauded the bravery and cooperation of the concerned citizen. They reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to sustain the momentum in the fight against local communist insurgency.

“The Maglilingkod and Charge Troopers remain steadfast in our mission to relentlessly pursue the remaining members of the Communist Terrorist Group and uphold lasting peace and security in our area of responsibility,” the commanders stated.

They also renewed their call for the remaining CTG members to surrender and return to mainstream society, assuring them of the government’s full support through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) and other reintegration efforts.

Lie-Low CTG Member’s Revelation Leads to Discovery of Another Arms Cache in Camarines Norte

LABO, Camarines Norte — In a major blow to the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG), a lie-low member’s decision to come forward has led soldiers of the 16th Infantry (Maglilingkod) Battalion, 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division, Philippine Army, to the discovery of a concealed arms cache in Barangay Submakin, Labo, Camarines Norte earlier today, October 1, 2025.

The cache, which belonged to Komiteng Larangang Gerilya 1, Sub-Regional Committee 1, Bicol Regional Party Committee (KLG1, SRC1, BRPC), contained the following war materiel believed to have been stockpiled for future hostile actions:

• Four (4) M16A1 rifles;
• One (1) Thompson Cal. 45 submachine gun;
• 31 plastic magazines for M16A1 rifle;
• Six (6) steel magazines for M14 rifle;
• 349 rounds of Ctg,5.56mm: Ball, M193 ammunition;
• 2,689 rrounds of Ctg,7.62mm: Ball, Linked ammunition;
• Two (2) Improvised Explosive Devices;
• 100 Blasting Caps; and
• Two (2) rolls Detonating Cord.

Lt. Col. Warren O. Daroy, Commanding Officer of the 16IB, lauded the courage of the lie-low member who revealed the cache’s location:

“This revelation shows that even those who once chose silence out of fear can now stand on the side of truth. By exposing these weapons, he not only weakened the CTG but also helped protect the lives of innocent civilians.”

This breakthrough demonstrates a growing rift within the CTG, as even inactive members are now rejecting the group’s violent ways. The government, through programs such as Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) and the National Amnesty Program, continues to assure former and inactive rebels of support should they choose reintegration over armed struggle.

MAGLILINGKOD BATTALION BAGS FOUR (4) MORE UNIT STREAMERS FOR EXCELLENCE IN SECURITY OPERATIONS AND DISASTER RESPONSE

LABO, Camarines Norte — The 16th Infantry (Maglilingkod) Battalion, 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division, Philippine Army, once again earned distinction after being awarded three (3) Commanding General, Philippine Army (CGPA) Kalasag Streamers and one (1) CGPA Bayanihan Streamer by no less than the CGPA himself, Lt. Gen. Antonio G. Nafarrete, during his visit at Headquarters, 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division, Philippine Army, Camp Capinpin, Tanay, Rizal last September 4, 2025.

Far from a first-time achievement, the Maglilingkod Battalion has been consistently recognized for operational excellence. In fact, for Calendar Year 2025 alone, the unit has already garnered ten (10) Unit Streamers, further cementing its reputation as one of the most decorated battalions in the Philippine Army.

The three (3) CGPA Kalasag Streamers were conferred for the Battalion’s exemplary Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response operations during the onslaught of Super Typhoon “PEPITO” and Severe Tropical Storm “KRISTINE” in Camarines Norte in CY 2024, as well as for their successful search, rescue, and retrieval operations following a landslide incident in Brgy. San Luis, Malitbog, Bukidnon in CY 2022, wherein the unit retrieved the remains of five (5) missing individuals after days of relentless operations.

Meanwhile, the CGPA Bayanihan Streamer was awarded in recognition of the Battalion’s pivotal role in the dismantling of Platun Ryan, Sub-Regional Committee 1 of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee in 2022 – a decisive blow against the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG).

During the ceremony, the courage and combat excellence of the Maglilingkod Troopers were also recognized when PFC Joevir C. Magkilat received the Military Merit Medal with Bronze Spearhead Device as a member of the Scout Platoon that figured in an armed encounter against CTG members believed to be from Platun Reymark, SRMA-4B, STRPC, which resulted in the neutralization of Sandy P. Broncaino, alias “Tau/Niji”, Political Instructor, and the capture of three (3) high-powered fi****ms in Brgy. Maguibuay, Tagkawayan, Quezon on August 2, 2025.

Lt. Col. Warren O. Daroy, Commanding Officer of the Maglilingkod Battalion, lauded the Maglilingkod Troopers, stating:

“These distinctions are more than streamers on our unit colors – they are reminders of the countless lives we’ve touched and protected. They reflect the courage and commitment of every Maglilingkod Trooper who stands ready to serve, whether in times of calamity or conflict.”

With these additional accolades, the Maglilingkod Battalion continues to strengthen its legacy of service and sacrifice, remaining steadfast in its mission as a reliable partner in nation-building, disaster response, and internal security operations.

FROM CONFLICT TO HOPE: FORMER REBELS BEGIN ANEW WITH PROVINCIAL SUPPORT IN CAMARINES NORTE

LABO, Camarines Norte — Three former rebels (FRs) in Camarines Norte who recently returned to the folds of the law received ₱10,000 immediate assistance each from the Provincial Government of Camarines Norte.

This supplemental aid serves as an immediate lifeline as they await full E-CLIP benefits, which provide not only financial relief but also opportunities for skills development, livelihood, and sustainable reintegration.

This is one of their reward for their courage to choose peace, their commitment to cooperate with authorities by providing vital information, and as a symbol of society’s acceptance—offering them a second chance to build a better future with their families.

“Buong puso kaming nagpapasalamat sa pagtanggap at tulong na ito – ito na ang pagkakataon na makapagsimula kami muli at maipaglaban ang magandang kinabukasan ng aming mga anak. Kapalit nito, makakaasa kayo na ibabahagi namin ang alam namin upang tuluyan nang magwakas ang karahasan,” said FR alias BIEN.

With the support of the Provincial Government, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), and other peace partners, the government ensures that FRs are guided as they transition back to mainstream society.

Meanwhile, the 16th Infantry (Maglilingkod) Battalion, Philippine Army, continues to provide guidance and security to FRs, ensuring that they are properly endorsed to concerned government agencies for full reintegration support.

REBEL-TURNED-ALLY LEADS TROOPS TO CTG ARMS CACHE

LABO, Camarines Norte — Once a fighter roaming the hills of Camarines Norte, a Former Rebel (FR) has chosen the path of peace and renewal. His decision to leave the Communist Terrorist Group was driven by one powerful reason – he longed to see his family again.

He is now enrolled in the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), where he will receive livelihood assistance, financial aid, counseling, and reintegration support.

“Dati, naranasan ko ang matinding hirap — gutom, pagod, takot, at laging nagtatago. Pinagbawalan akong makita ang pamilya ko, at matagal kong tiniis ang lungkot,” he shared.

“Pero nang sumuko ako, doon nagsimula ang pagbabago. Tinanggap ako ng gobyerno at binigyan ng bagong pag-asa. Ngayon, nakakasama ko na ang pamilya ko at may kapayapaan na sa puso ko”, he added.

Grateful for this opportunity, the former rebel turned his back on violence and chose to help the very authorities who once pursued him. On August 18 2025, he provided vital information that led to a successful special operation led by the 16th Infantry (Maglilingkod) Battalion, 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division, Philippine Army, in coordination with the 85th Infantry (Sandiwa) Battalion; Labo Municipal Police Station; Camarines Norte 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company; and 91st Special Action Company, 9SAB, PNP-SAF.

The operation uncovered a buried CTG arms cache belonging to the Komiteng Larangang Gerilya 1 (KLG1) under the Sub-Regional Committee 1, Bicol Regional Party Committee (SRC1, BRPC) in Barangay Malaya, Labo, Camarines Norte.

Seized items include:

• Six (6) M16A1 rifles and one (1) AK47 rifle
• Two (2) rounds of 40mm high-explosive gr***des
• 163 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition
• Six (6) M16A1 steel magazines
• One (1) Claymore-type Improvised Explosive Device

“Dati, armas ang bitbit ko. Ngayon, tumutulong na akong alisin ang mga ito,” the former rebel said.

For the military, his transformation demonstrates that genuine peace is not only possible but attainable when former rebels embrace reintegration.

“This is the power of reintegration,” said Lieutenant Colonel Warren O. Daroy, Commanding Officer of the 16IB. “When former rebels choose peace, they become allies in protecting our communities.”

The 16th Infantry (Maglilingkod) Battalion reiterates its call for remaining CTG members to abandon the armed struggle and take advantage of government programs such as E-CLIP, the National Amnesty Program, and other initiatives that offer financial assistance, livelihood opportunities, and psychosocial services.

Peace, after all, begins with one brave choice – the choice to go home.
