May 29, 2026 | Bongcas Holy Child Hospital, Maramag, Bukidnon
As part of the continuing efforts to strengthen the implementation of the Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (MBFHI) and ensure adherence to national standards on breastfeeding promotion and support, the Provincial Health Office of Bukidnon conducted an MBFHI Pre-Assessment at Bongcas Holy Child Hospital, Maramag, Bukidnon, on May 29, 2026.
The activity was spearheaded by MBFHI Coordinator Mitzi Espuerta, RND, together with Nutritionist-Dietitian I Lhalene Flores, RND, and Neil Vincent Quitoriano of the Provincial Health Office. The pre-assessment served as a comprehensive evaluation of the hospitalโs readiness for MBFHI certification, focusing on compliance with established policies, protocols, and practices that promote, protect, and support breastfeeding and optimal Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF).
Key areas assessed included the implementation of the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, facility policies, staff competency and capacity-building initiatives, patient education and counseling services, as well as the integration of mother-baby friendly practices within the continuum of maternal and newborn care.
The activity provided an opportunity to identify strengths, address gaps, and formulate recommendations to further enhance the quality of services delivered to mothers and infants. Findings from the assessment will guide the hospital in its continuous quality improvement efforts and preparation for the formal MBFHI assessment and certification process.
The Provincial Health Office commends the management and healthcare workforce of Bongcas Holy Child Hospital for their commitment to advancing evidence-based maternal, newborn, and child health interventions and for fostering a healthcare environment that supports the health, nutrition, and well-being of mothers and their children.
