The Barangay fiesta was celebrated during September 27-28 yearly, in honour of Patron Saint San Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila. HISTORY OF BARANGAY NAPAAN.: In the beginning, Napaan was a sitio of Barangay Argao. It was inhabited by few families scattered in the lowlands and in the mountains. At that time, most of the inhabitants are poor and have not undergone schooling because aside from the reason of p
overty, the residents have to cross the Napaan River nineteen (19) times before reaching the school in the bario. The Napaan Primary School was later opened in June 1971, with only one class In Grade 1; most of the pupils were in average level. Napaan derived its name from the world “KANIPAAN” meaning a land covered, or planted with nipa palms. This was so because the jurisdiction of sitio Napaan before extends from the Nepal lands on the western side of Brgy. The place where the present Brgy. Captain of Argao resides and also their neighbors, Garcia family formerly called Napaan. As a sitio, Napaan was politically dominated by the Sullano, whom the people called Tatay Indong or Lolo Indong was the most prominent man in the community, respected and
Obeyed by everyone. Later he was replaced by his son, Uldarico Sullano, who was more politically powerful than his father. Because of their social and economic status. Uldarico’s son, Celestino was chosen to be the first Brgy. Captain of Napaan when the sitio became a barrio. Napaan was created as a barrio by virtue of a petition signed by the residents and approved by the Provincial Board of Aklan, under the governorship of the late Dr. Jose B. Legaspi, through the recommendation of the Municipal Council of Malay, headed by the Mayor Ciriaco M. Prado, Napaan then was inaugurated as an independent barrio from Argao last September 12, 1970. The first officials installed into Office were Brgy. Captain Celestino Sullano and the Councilmen: Geronimo Ascaño, Dianito Pablo, Julio Ascaño, Johnny Tamboon, and Wilfredo Sullano. The first appointed Brgy. Secretary and Brgy Treasurer was Maximiano Gumboc and Lolita Pablo respectively. Barangay Napaan is an Interior Barangay in the Municipality of Malay, adjoining the Barangays of Argao in the North, Nabaoy in the South, Caticlan in the East and Cogon in the West side. It comprises the sitios of Dalamuan, Tauban, Kipot or Sitio Ilaya and Sitio Ilawod. It has a land area of 628 sq. (DA profile), and according to the latest survey, the total population is 783 consisting 170 household. The first Barangay fiesta was celebrated on December 26-27, 1990, in honour of Patron Saint San Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila. This religious celebration held annually thereafter. Nowadays the fiesta is Celebrated on September 27-18 yearly.
