Forty-eight couples officially began a new chapter in their lives after exchanging their โI doโsโ during the Kasalan ng Bayan ceremony held on September 3 at the Mayorโs Satellite Office in Barangay Lun Padidu.
Witnessed by their families, relatives, and community members, the couples exchanged vows and formalized their unions in a ceremony marking a significant milestone in their lives as legally married couples.
Mayor Salway โJunโ Sumbo, Jr. led the ceremony as the solemnizing officer, joined by First Lady Flordeliza Sumbo and Municipal Councilors Danilo Abdulradzak and Brandy Palarion, who witnessed the mass wedding ceremony.
In his message, Mayor Sumbo, Jr. underscored the importance of legalizing marriages as a means of building stable families and ensuring that spouses and their children are afforded the rights and protections provided under the law. He also emphasized the vital role of strong families in fostering a peaceful, responsible, and resilient community.
The Kasalan ng Bayan ceremony was originally scheduled in June as part of the municipalityโs 57th Founding Anniversary and 21st Pakaradyan Festival. However, the festivities were disrupted following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck the municipality, prompting the postponement of the ceremony.
The couples received financial assistance and 10-kilo sacks of rice each to support their new beginning.
The Local Government Unit of Malapatan remained committed to pushing through with the mass wedding, recognizing the importance of helping couples formalize their marriages and strengthen their families amid the municipalityโs ongoing recovery efforts.
The ceremony was facilitated by the Municipal Registrarโs Office, headed by May P. Abdon, as part of its efforts to assist couples in legalizing their unions and promote stronger and more stable families in the community. (Malapatan Information Office)
