Brgy. Poblacion, Makilala, Cotabato — The 39th Infantry (Smash 'Em) Battalion hosted its 3rd Quarter Socials spearheaded by Commanding Officer LTC HECTOR A ESTOLAS INF (GSC) PA, to honor reassigned officer, stakeholder, enlisted personnel top performers and Patrol Base Commanders as part of the unit’s NCO Recognition Program.

The unit extends its gratitude to LTC IAN Z HERMOSURA thru a “Once A Smasher, Always A Smasher” plaque for his dedicated tenure and vital contributions as former Executive Officer. He is reassigned to another battalion within the Division. A plaque of recognition was likewise given to Dr Mary Grace C Estolas for her sustained support to the morale of troops’ dependents.

The battalion also celebrated exceptional individual achievements: PFC Lito H Sumulat and PFC Christian A Deloria were honored for graduating at the top of their Scout Ranger Course classes, while Cpl John Rey L Tangonan was recognized for winning overall champion in the Man vs. Man category at the 20th Agila Commander's Cup.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the recognition of Patrol Base Commanders and dependents thru a token of appreciation for their frontline leadership, operational and administrative management of CAFGU Active Auxiliaries in their respective areas. Each also received a brand-new television set to enhance morale and base living conditions of their CAAs.

In his message, LTC ESTOLAS extended the units gratitude to Ltc Hermosura and Dr Mary Grace for their contributions and support. Likewise, he
commended the troops who excelled in their respective fields and most especially to the Patrol Base Commanders who serve as the resilient backbone of the unit's operational and sustainment efforts directly contributing to the maintaining an insurgency-free area of operations.

STA. CRUZ, DAVAO DEL SUR—The 39th Infantry (Smash'Em) Battalion secured the voluntary surrender of a loose fi***rm on September 4, following coordinated community peace efforts with local authorities.

Dori Samling Capina, 44, a resident of Sitio Alyong, Brgy. Kimlawis, Kiblawan, voluntarily turned over an M16 r***e with defaced serial number to Alpha Company, 39IB, at their station in Sitio Cogon, Brgy. Tuban, Sta. Cruz.

Capina is affiliated with the group led by Balusa Malid Binuhay, which previously surrendered three fi***rms to Charlie Company, 39IB, on August 24. The group, previously featured in a viral video patrolling Sitio Bongmal, had pledged to yield their fourth and final fi***rm. Expressing a desire for reconciliation, the group committed to abandoning illegal activities and supporting peace efforts.

1LT Philip D. Servidad (INF) PA, Alpha Company Commander, presented the surrendered fi***rm and Capina to Kiblawan Municipal Mayor Hon. Carl Jason Rama during a ceremony at the Municipal Mayor's Office. PMAJ William O. Catipay Jr., Acting Chief of Police of PNP Kiblawan, and PMAJ Robert James Carumba, Deputy Force Commander of the 2nd DSPMFC, also attended the event.

The 39IB continues to collaborate with local government units, the Philippine National Police, and community stakeholders to maintain peace and security across its area of operations.

Project TUMMADDU Year 4 continues to bring the gift of education closer to children and youth in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs). Now on its 9th week of implementation, the project remains dedicated to providing meaningful learning opportunities to the young learners of Sitio Mariras, Barangay Sibulan, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.
The initiative is spearheaded by Alpha “Achievers” Company, 39th Infantry “Smash’Em” Battalion, under the leadership of 1LT PHILIP D SERVIDAD (INF) PA, in collaboration with the Youth for Peace Movement (YFPM) - TALBOS Sta. Cruz Chapter. Through their continued partnership, they remain committed to providing educational support and bringing meaningful learning opportunities closer to the young learners in the community.
During this week’s activity, 2LT JORGE JUSTIN G. ARCENAL (INF) PA, together with the personnel of Alpha “Achievers” Company and 42 members of the Youth for Peace Movement (YFPM) - TALBOS Sta. Cruz Chapter, traveled to Sitio Mariras to conduct various learning activities, including basic literacy instruction, reading enhancement, values formation, and youth engagement.
More than developing reading and writing skills, the sessions provide the learners with opportunities to build confidence, develop positive values, and appreciate the importance of education. Each activity serves as a step toward empowering young learners to overcome challenges and pursue greater opportunities in the future.
The sustained implementation of Project TUMMADDU is made possible through the continued support of the Local Government Unit of Sta. Cruz, headed by its Mayor, Hon. Jose Nelson Z. Sala Sr., together with partner agencies, stakeholders, volunteers, and other individuals who remain committed to supporting education in underserved communities.
As the project moves forward, the team remains committed to sustaining its efforts and reaching every learner in Sitio Mariras. Through continuous learning sessions, guidance, and community involvement, Project TUMMADDU aims to further strengthen the learners’ literacy skills while fostering confidence, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for education.

MAKILALA, NORTH COTABATO — The 39th Infantry “Smash’em” Battalion, Philippine Army, led by LTC HECTOR A ESTOLAS INF (GSC) PA, Commanding Officer, strengthened its commitment to promoting and protecting the rights and welfare of children through a lecture on the Philippine Child Protection Legal Framework, Child Protection Policy and Safeguarding Protocols, and the Revised Protocol on Child Victims of Abuse, Neglect, Exploitation, and Discrimination (CANE+D).

The activity was conducted on 03 September 2026 at the Headquarters, 39th Infantry Battalion, Brgy. Poblacion, Makilala, North Cotabato.

The lecture was facilitated by Ms. Lei Anne Mae C. Silva, RSW, from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office XII, with the assistance of 1LT EDMAR E TAYONG INF PA, Civil-Military Operations (CMO) Officer of 39IB.

The discussion provided the participating personnel with a deeper understanding of existing laws, policies, and protocols concerning child protection, including appropriate measures in handling cases involving children who may be victims of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and discrimination.

The activity also emphasized the importance of safeguarding children from harm and ensuring that their rights, dignity, and best interests are upheld in all circumstances. It further enhanced the personnel’s awareness and capacity to respond appropriately to child protection concerns encountered in the Battalion’s area of operations.

Through this initiative, the 39IB reaffirms its commitment to supporting government efforts in protecting children and fostering safe, peaceful, and child-friendly communities.

MAKILALA, NORTH COTABATO — The 39th Infantry “Smash’em” Battalion, Philippine Army, led by LTC HECTOR A ESTOLAS INF (GSC) PA, Commanding Officer, successfully conducted its Regular Monday Flag Raising Ceremony on 31 August 2026 at the Headquarters, 39IB, Brgy. Poblacion, Makilala, North Cotabato.

The activity served as an avenue to reinforce the troops’ commitment to duty, discipline, and service to the Filipino people. It also provided an opportunity for the Battalion to recognize the dedication and valuable contributions of its personnel who are set to retire from military service.

During the ceremony, LTC ESTOLAS personally honored and recognized the retiring personnel for their years of faithful and dedicated service to the Philippine Army and the nation. Their commitment, sacrifices, and professionalism throughout their military careers were highlighted as an inspiration to the younger generation of soldiers.

In his message, LTC ESTOLAS expressed his appreciation to the retiring personnel for their unwavering dedication and selfless service, emphasizing that their contributions have become an integral part of the Battalion’s accomplishments and legacy.

He also recognized the wives and families of the retiring personnel, acknowledging their unwavering support, sacrifices, patience, and understanding throughout the years of military service. He emphasized that behind every dedicated soldier is a family that shares in the challenges and sacrifices of serving the nation.

The ceremony concluded with a tribute to the retiring personnel, recognizing not only their years in uniform but also the lasting legacy they leave behind in the 39th Infantry “Smash’em” Battalion.

As they transition to the next chapter of their lives, the 39IB family extends its heartfelt appreciation and best wishes to the retiring personnel and their families. 39IB, Government Partners Sustain Peace Efforts Through Coordinated Law Enforcement Operations

MAKILALA, COTABATO—The 39th Infantry “Smash ’em” Battalion continues to strengthen its peace and security efforts through sustained Law Enforcement Support Operations, intelligence gathering, community engagement, and close coordination with local government units (LGUs), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and other concerned government agencies.

As part of these continuing efforts, three (3) loose fi***rms were peacefully surrendered following sustained engagement and coordination by the troops of the 39IB last August 28, 2026. The development highlights the importance of persistent government presence, community cooperation, and inter-agency coordination in addressing the proliferation of loose fi***rms and maintaining peace and order in the communities.

The successful surrender was facilitated through the continuing efforts of the Charlie Company and Intelligence Section, under the leadership of 1LT LESTER S. DEPOT (INF) PA, Charlie Company Commander, with the active participation of the Company Intelligence Team. Their sustained engagement with the community and coordination with concerned authorities contributed to the peaceful resolution and surrender of the fi***rms.

The surrendered fi***rms and individuals were presented by 2LT MARK JAPHETH CABAYAO (AGS) PA, Platoon Leader, C/39IB, during a simple ceremony held at the Office of the Municipal Mayor of Tampakan, Hon. Leonard T. Escobillo. Also present were PCOL ISRALENE Z. LAUREN, Provincial Director, SCPPO, and PMAJ JS T. PEDROSA, Chief of Police of Tampakan.

The 39IB recognizes the vital support and cooperation of the Local Government Unit of Tampakan, the Philippine National Police, and other concerned government agencies in ensuring the peaceful surrender and proper disposition of the fi***rms. Such collaborative efforts demonstrate the government’s shared commitment to maintaining peace, public safety, and community stability.
