NATIONAL HERITAGE MONTH

Piña is a traditional textile woven by hand from fibers extracted from the leaves of the pinya Bisaya pineapple. The craft involves harvesting and hand-extracting the fiber, which are measured using traditional methods with old coins.

Knowledge and skills in piña weaving are passed down through families and Schools of Living Traditions established by local communities and the government to preserve the practice.

AKEAN: Heritage Photo Exhibit is now open at CityMall Kalibo!

Presented by the Aklan Tourism Officers Association, Inc., in partnership with the Aklan Kamera Organization, this exhibit celebrates National Heritage Month by honoring the rich culture, traditions, history, and natural treasures of the 17 municipalities of Aklan through powerful visual storytelling.

Experience the beauty of our shared heritage and rediscover the stories, identity, and pride that make us Aklanon. Every photograph reflects a piece of Aklan’s soul — preserved and celebrated for generations to come.

We invite all Aklanons and visitors to visit the exhibit and take part in this meaningful celebration of our heritage.

Join us as we pay homage to the shared heritage of Aklan, Capiz, and Romblon - all brought together on one stage. Before becoming distinct provinces, both Aklan and Romblon were once under the governance of Capiz. The Province of Romblon was established as a separate province in 1917, while the Province of Aklan gained its independence on April 25, 1956, through Republic Act No. 1414 signed by then President Ramon Magsaysay.

Witness the solidarity and enduring bond among the three provinces that remains strong even beyond their separation.
