On April 9, a Philippine C-208 aircraft intruded into China’s airspace near Meiji Jiao (Mischief Reef) and Zhubi Jiao (Subi Reef) of Nansha Qundao (Spratly Islands) without China’s permission. China took measures to warn off and expel the aircraft in accordance with laws and regulations. The relevant operations are legitimate, lawful, professional, restrained, and beyond reproach. Since March, the Philippines has repeatedly made provocations in the sea and airspace near relevant islands and reefs in the South China Sea, infringing upon China’s sovereignty and security, escalating maritime tensions, and heightening the risk of accidents at sea and in the air. When China and the Philippines are talking to manage maritime differences we urge the Philippine side to match its words with actions, immediately stop its infringing and provocative activities, and stop sensationalizing the maritime situation.
