The Governments of the Philippines and Japan, through the Department of Trade and Industry – Strategic Trade Management Office, the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, successfully hosted the Japan-Philippines Public-Private Forum on Export Control/ Strategic Trade Management on 24 March 2026 at the Dusit Thani Manila, Makati City.
The forum brought together 70 companies, highlighting the growing importance of strategic trade management (STM) in an increasingly complex global environment. The event aimed to strengthen the cooperation on STM, particularly in the context of emerging technologies and promote the responsible transfer of technology.
The event underscored the vital role of public-private collaboration, diverse perspectives on leveraging STM not only as a security measure but also as an enabler of business growth, innovation, and participation in global value, and efforts to address challenges posed by emerging technologies, particularly their potential misuse in the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. It also featured a productive dialogue between industry stakeholders and the Japanese and Philippine governments on the best practices, compliance strategies and way forward to help them navigate evolving global trade and security landscapes. Through these efforts, the Forum reinforced the commitment of both countries to support economic security, promote responsible trade, and enhance international cooperation.
