READ | Japan-Philippines Public-Private Forum on Export Control

The Governments of the Philippines and Japan, through the Department of Trade and Industry – Strategic Trade Management Office, the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, successfully hosted the Japan-Philippines Public-Private Forum on Export Control/ Strategic Trade Management on 24 March 2026 at the Dusit Thani Manila, Makati City.

The forum brought together 70 companies, highlighting the growing importance of strategic trade management (STM) in an increasingly complex global environment. The event aimed to strengthen the cooperation on STM, particularly in the context of emerging technologies and promote the responsible transfer of technology.

The event underscored the vital role of public-private collaboration, diverse perspectives on leveraging STM not only as a security measure but also as an enabler of business growth, innovation, and participation in global value, and efforts to address challenges posed by emerging technologies, particularly their potential misuse in the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. It also featured a productive dialogue between industry stakeholders and the Japanese and Philippine governments on the best practices, compliance strategies and way forward to help them navigate evolving global trade and security landscapes. Through these efforts, the Forum reinforced the commitment of both countries to support economic security, promote responsible trade, and enhance international cooperation.

LOOK: The DTI–Strategic Trade Management Office (STMO), led by its Director, Atty. Janice Sacedon-Dimayacyac, participated in the ASEAN Economic Security Roundtable on 25 February 2026 at the Courtyard by Marriott, Iloilo City.

The roundtable examined Strategic Trade Management (STM) as a critical pillar of economic security in an increasingly complex global trade environment, where dual-use goods, advanced technologies, and transshipment risks require calibrated regulatory oversight. Discussions underscored ASEAN’s role in global production networks and the need to strengthen regional credibility through risk-based export controls, enhanced compliance mechanisms, and closer coordination among Member States.

READ | The Department of Trade and Industry- Strategic Trade Management Office (DTI-STMO) participates in the 32nd Asian Export Control Seminar (AECS) in Tokyo, Japan

The Philippines attends the 32nd Asian Export Control Seminar (AECS) held in Tokyo, Japan, from 04 to 06 February 2026 with Undersecretary Allan B. Gepty of the International Trade Group and Director Janice Sacedon-Dimayacyac as resource speakers. Representatives from Asian countries and regions gathered to discuss and propose solutions to security challenges posed by the increasingly complex methods used in the transfer of sensitive and dual-use goods and technologies with applications in the development of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery. Also discussed were related topics, including relevant issues in implementing strategic trade management.

Meanwhile, Undersecretary Gepty and Director Dimayacyac shared updates on the Philippines’ implementation of the Strategic Trade Management Act (STMA) and its licensing overview, which focuses on providing services to its stakeholders, cooperating with international partners, complying with treaties and international obligations, collaborating with government partners, and ensuring effective policies for continuous improvement of the STM in the country.

The DTI-Strategic Trade Management Office hosted the 𝐒𝐓𝐌𝐀 𝟏𝟎𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 to honor a decade of safe and progressive trade service, held at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati City on November 13, 2025.

Nagtipon-tipon ang mga local at international experts kasama ang mga kinatawan ng pamahalaan sa isinagawang 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦 mula Nobyembre 11-12 upang tiyakin ang ligtas na kalakan ng strategic goods sa bansa.
