Ambassador of Bangladesh H.E. Mr. Mohammad Sarwar Mahmood, ndc paid an official visit to Iloilo from 09 to 11 August 2026. H.E. Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Shah Md. Ashraful Alam Mohon, Counsellor & Head of Chancery; and Mr. M. M. Julker Naim Drobo, Second Secretary.

During the visit, Ambassador Mahmood delivered a keynote address at the Global Youth Ambassadors Model Conference (GYAMC) Iloilo 2026. Ambassador Mahmood also held fruitful meetings with Iloilo’s leadership, including Hon’ble Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., Hon’ble Vice Governor Nathalie Ann Debuque, Hon. Mayor Raisa Treñas, and Hon. Representative and Vice Chairperson of the Committee on Appropriations Ms Julienne Baronda.
The meetings discussed emerging trade and investment opportunities for Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garments (RMG), pharmaceutical, and agricultural sectors, alongside potential collaborations in aquaculture, microfinance, health education, and the Philippines’ BPO and semiconductor industries. The Bangladesh Embassy, Manila reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties between Bangladesh and the Philippines at both national and provincial levels.

Bangladesh Embassy Highlights Youth's Role in Nation-Building During July Uprising Commemoration Seminar

The Embassy of Bangladesh in the Philippines held an open seminar on August 5 at Dusit Thani Manila to commemorate the July Uprising, bringing together diplomats, educators, and student leaders to discuss the vital role of young people in shaping the future of their countries and the global community. The event featured representatives from leading Philippine universities who shared insights on youth leadership, civic engagement, education, and international cooperation.

In his opening remarks, Bangladesh Ambassador Mohammad Sarwar Mahmood, ndc emphasized that young people play a crucial role in nation-building and in addressing global challenges. He encouraged the youth to become responsible, informed, and active citizens who can contribute to peace, development, and stronger international partnerships. The seminar also featured presentations from Dr. Jose Carlo G. de Pano of the University of the Philippines, Prof. Mary Emily Geraldine Perez and Ms. Adynna Espiritu of the University of the East, Dr. Ronald Castillo of the University of Santo Tomas, and Engr. Noe D. Enriquez of Adamson University, who discussed how education, leadership, and active participation empower young people to help shape society.

The seminar concluded with a shared message that investing in the youth is essential to building a more inclusive, resilient, and progressive future. Hon'ble Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman met Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines today in Manila on the margin of the 50th Anniversary of Treaty of Amity and Cooperation of Southeast Asia.

The two Foreign Ministers discussed advancing bilateral cooperation in diverse sectors including cooperation in the nursing sector, visa facilitation for medical tourism, business promotion and family unification.

Foreign Minister Rahman requested the support of the current ASEAN chair, the Philippines, to Bangladesh's bid to become sectoral dialogue partner to ASEAN and sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis. Both Ministers also emphasized increased economic engagements between their respective countries.
